I finally bit the bullet and performed surgery on the rocoto. It was a success; unfortunately, it was also too late, and the cotyledons -- while they are intact -- are dead. Going to keep taking care of it just in case, but will probably start the other two seeds soon. 😞

Excellent insight! I shall threaten them with the loss of their foreskins. If that doesn't work... well, I guess I'll call the mohel. It's no good making a threat if you're not prepared to deliver.
