I've been saying that for years... Funny how it surprises people.

This is one of those things that should be automatic with people. Sad that it isn't.
Brrrr. Low of -15 so I picked all the ripe peppers in my improvised green house. The plants will soon be toast with these temps. Latest I've ever picked ripe superhots!!
We've had Indian Summer w-a-y too long. The mountains have been getting all the snow - we need the moisture down here!.

My wonderful order from PepperLover just arrived in fine form. First Christmas present of the season. The kids are ecstatic with all the many ways they'll use Judy's perfect peppers.

Garlic harvest, dried, and ready for use. We've made garlic dill pickles with Trinidad Scorpions so far.
Garlic harvest! We have them drying in the garage so no vampires may enter.

Mine are usually in the ground for 9 months. I harvest them when half of the stalk has died, or about 2-3 weeks after cutting the scapes from the hardneck garlic.

Can you leave them in the ground for too long?

YES - the cloves will begin to separate and you'll have to eat/use them shortly after harvest OR you can plant the cloves again in the Fall.
Living in the South, you may have softneck varieties that don't have the scapes or flowers to cut. They last longer after being dried, but don't have the intense flavor of the hardnecks.
Monsoon weather already? Happy dance. Drought restrictions still, but we can water a bit more. One extreme softened a bit. Hopefully the rest of the state will get some rain.

Luckily it's only one day of the year for a celebration. Few fireworks because of the drought and wildfires, but what we can see - very nice!
Four wildfires started yesterday in CO. Smoke has now reached our neighborhood. Another hot and dry summer projected.

We'd LOVE your rain! Just don't send any hail with it. I guess I'd rather have the dry summer heat than your rain, but our watering restrictions sure make for frustrating brown landscapes.

So send the rain - you can have the hot sun and smoke!
