One of them was woolly, I don't know what the other one was except that it readily drops little bits of itself that grow quickly. They were in a 6" clay pot for about as many years, so I couldn't use tongs or anything like that without damaging them. They're both about a foot tall, so I turned the pot over and caught them. It hurt, but now they're in a 12" pot with better quality soil.
Maybe invest or borrow some welding gloves next time. I live in and grew up in the desert, so I definitely sympathize with you. Cacti thorns hurt and the worst part is you will feel the little splinters for the next week.
No splinters surprisingly. I guess that's a good thing about cacti with thorns an inch long. Although the cactus I'm not looking forward to repotting is the "cthulhu cactus" which is a graft between two others that was kept in the shade too long.
