Sounds like you live in Illinois. Be glad you're not in Chicago, we don't get our mail, we don't get police response, yet we pay thousands in property taxes/rent and have a 10.25% sales tax.

They finally repaved our street, before that you pretty much needed an SUV to drive on it or you'd snap your tie rods (seriously the ball joint snapped on my mustang on my street). The taxes supposedly pay for the police but I've witnessed crimes, called the cops, and no one shows up. When they do they stand around for a while or sit in their cruisers. A non-dangerous street tree is one that doesn't have broken limbs, crown dieback or gross structural defects that cause it to fail during storms. They are on residential terraces and are the city's responsibility to maintain.
