what sort of calculations?

Mostly geometric and corrosion coefficients, weld calcs, tmins, Steel stresses, joint efficiencies, ligament sizing... all factors to calculate before comparing to code acceptance criteria.

The equations aren't hard, per se, just so many we don't normally deal with. Lots of acronyms we're not readily familiar with.

T sub c = avg thickness on circumferencial axis... easy, right? T sub s..... S = Longitudinal axis? Whod'a thunk it??

I'm a petrochemical inspector. This is fracture mechanics. Fitness For Service evaluations dependent on damage mechanisms on steel. We normally pay engineers to do these calcs for us.

considering how much my time gets billed for... for non structural shit id reccomend you learn them calcs!!! save your boss ungodly sums.
