Thanks Scovie, me neither. First time experiencing that. I took part in stomping out small little fires once they sprayed it down. They stayed for quite a while afterwards and in the morning to soak some areas still smoldering.
THP, yeah that was probably the first word I said. Afterwards, everyone including the pilot were hanging around. Got some video of the chopper landing and taking off right on our land which was cool. Pretty bad ass copter.
Its good to have neighbors who seen this. Had the hot neighbor next door come hauling ass up our drive and warned us. I seen the flames going up one of the pine trees, seen the smoke and it got real very quick.
I hope you never have to deal with wild fire again. Google "defensible space" and heed the info. I'm sure you heard about our last two years but the Carlton Complex was terrifying. The conditions were the perfect storm, 106ยบ F, 12% humidity with 35-50mph winds. Not. Cool. I hope you have a generator if you are on a well, and if not, I beg you to get that squared up. A $2,500 Honda will save your world. Be safe bro.
I have a really good clearance between our home and the trees in the back which I am thankful for. I plan on increasing it even further after this. No generator yet though. I'm sorry that you had to go through that, I understand its nothing to scoff at.
Our winds were nothing like what you described. I cannot imagine 50 mpg winds in that situation. We are lucky in that we have a large river system close by for the copter to use to pick up water.
