my security cam picked up an incident in front of my house. I gave the office my name and number and they said they'd call if they needed anything. An hour later I got a call from one of the people involved in the incident, who said the police gave him my contact information.
Hmm... l am thinking of a car accident I was in - a lady ran a stop sign right into my car. Witnesses gave the cop (who also witnessed it) their contact info, who immediately gave it to me (I would need it as the lady tried to claim her running the stop sign was somehow someone else's fault.) I don't know if he gave the contact info to the woman who ran the stop sign, though, as I ended up passing out. So hopefully the cop in your situation was giving it to him as witness info. Still,...
Still, you don't know how either may use the info. I would suggest contacting the cops, tell of your discomfort and ask if there is something you could say to prevent your info from being automatically given out if such a thing occurs in the future.
it was an accident, bicycle vs car. I guess because I offered the footage my name/number goes into the police report. The cop passed on my info there instead of making the guy wait for the police report. Still seems kinda weird but at least I know next time that all my info becomes public record.
