Steel makes a cool noise from farther away. Doesn't wear out as fast either. Try 1000 yrds with a 5.56....

I bought one of those steel flip reseting ones for plinking with my .22. LOVE it! I think they make them for up to a .44 but not sure.

I have a gong I still haven't taken a shot at. I need to get back to it. Maybe I'll get that Sig P226 for Christmas

.50 cal BMG makes a nice gong sound on a manhole cover. Addicting.

If you like shooting gongs, check out Hickok45's youtube channel.

I have watched Hickok45 for years now. Great guy. I found some gongs for cheap, but they are high quality. I can shoot a 30-06 at these targets, no problem. I just built a wooden stand for them. Works great.

I also bought some bolts 1 and half inch 3/8s. Attached to a chromoly thick chain. Takes everything I shoot at it.

This company also has the bulls eyes flip targets Scovie mentioned. However, they have ones that can take most everything. Any round, from any distance.

i was gonna suggest that you watch that hickok video about shooting steel... but im guessing you already have seen it.

one thing he does not mention though... is how you can fix craters with a welder provided you know what the base metal alloy is.

like say you crater a 100$ sillohouet, you can take it to a welder and have the craters softened... welding high carbon steel though causes carbon migration, internal stress etc. only do it a few times max.

I bought some of the pop up rodent silhouettes for my wife to practice hitting with her .38. I hit one of them close to the hinge with a .357 mag and it doesn't want to pop back up anymore. Massive crater dent, broken spring.

I guess some of that is going to happen with time. The ones I am using are very good quality. I have them hanging at an angle to deflect the shots to the ground which helps a lot.
