Thanks for the feedback! I'll try some things out. I think the randomising of images in the gallery columns slows it down a bit too.

wordpress. you should finish it! layout isn't bad. I spent about 2 days searching for the right themes (most of the wordpress stuff isn't that good for photogs)

Took me about 2 days to get the swing of the UI and really get quick changing stuff. Haven't decided what I want my first blog post to be.

That bg image also takes a really long time to load. I see it is PNG, in PS, you can "Save for Web" as PNG-24 and it will optimize.
