I wanted a pair of 1460's matte 8 hole but didn't want to suffer the break in. My last pair or Docs were the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. But even those took 3 months to break in and were beaucoup painful to do so.

DM sells their balsam stuff to apply to ease break in. I dunno' if its snake oil or not. I would reckon saddle soap and heat would do the same but I have no experience. Still going to get a pair of the 8 hole 1460's. Will be painful for sure. But I've been married before. I'll take the boots!

Neatsfoot oil is really good for breaking in and protecting boots and baseball gloves.
I love those mugs...I didn't know of the names for each.
