    seeds Problems Germinating PepperLover Seeds

Don't get me wrong, I am very happy with the service from Pepper Lover and I can't imagine ordering from anywhere else. I thought maybe there might have been something wrong with those particular varieties.   I haven't made a complaint because I don't want her to feel obliged to pay for postage...

    seeds Problems Germinating PepperLover Seeds

I was just curious if anyone else has had trouble sprouting seeds from Pepper Lover this year? The lack of new stock on the website has me wondering if I was sold some old seeds that aren't viable anymore.   I have ZERO sprouts from my Fatalii, Serrano, and Princess Faten peppers. Only 50% germ...

chinense Very bitter tasting Aji Habanero

Finally these are ripening to a nice orange colour. They taste much sweeter when ripe. I'm still on the fence about this variety though; while the flavour has improved, I find the walls of the pepper to be a little too thin and tough for my taste.

chinense Very bitter tasting Aji Habanero

Its my first time growing this pepper, and I must have at least 200 peppers across my 4 plants. Unfortunately, 1 out of every 2 peppers is completely inedible due to a very strong bitter taste. They arent quite ripe yet (waxy yellow with browning tips)   Has anyone experienced this before? Im...

fertilizer Egg shells, banana peels as fertilizers

I personally wouldn't put anything into my soil until it has been composted. Only mature compost goes into my gardens. The reason for that is that as the soil organisms decompose the organic matter, you will theoretically have a drop in plant-available nitrogen. Once the compost is matured and...

    preservation Alternatives to the Dehydrator??

Well, I have a Salton dehydrator but it's not the best out there. It takes about 16 hours to dry 4 trays of peppers, but i have to cut them in two.   I was trying to get two birds stoned at once: easy way out of drying peppers from 50 plants, and also make some ristras to give as gifts.   I'll...

    preservation Alternatives to the Dehydrator??

Good to know! You may have saved me from wasting 100 Bih Jolokia peppers.

    preservation Alternatives to the Dehydrator??

Thanks guys, i'll experiment with these methods.   I'm growing some Bih Jolokia, supposedly they have very thin walls. I'll try with those first!

    preservation Alternatives to the Dehydrator??

Does anyone know of any decent ways to dry peppers without the use of a dehydrator? I was thinking about tying them up and hanging them vertically to try. Mostly with annuum but maybe some baccatum varieties as well. I want to make some decorative pepper bunches similar to braided garlic bunches...

    Let the hardening begin!

It seems to work! We have a ton of wild rabbits in our area. This morning there were 3 of them just chilling on the front lawn! Buggers.

    Let the hardening begin!

Fairly strong...not at peak yet, but enough to give the average person a sunburn in 20-30 minutes. The bulbs were just your standard 6500k cool white bulbs.   The peppers get full sun from 9 am to about 2 pm, after which they are partially shaded by a big maple tree. See pics below...

    Let the hardening begin!

I was suprised how strong they were after sitting under 6 T8 tubes! They only needed 1 day of hardening off, and even then I think i could have planted them into the garden without any hardening off at all.   I think that having a fan on them constantly also helped a lot. I remember growing...

    chinense Wendy's ghost pepper fries

Technically, no...they called it "Ghost" pepper, as in it is a figment of your imagination and doesn't exist in this plane of reality.   Now if they had called it Bhut Jolokia fries, you might have a case!

    fertilizer How much fertilizer?

IMO, fertilizing potted plants with liquid fertilizer can be tough. The organic matter in the soil *should* bind some of it for later use, but most will get leached out if you water until it starts coming out of the bottom.   When I grow in pots, i like to use liquid fertilizer at a different...

    Amazing frost recovery

Be careful with those frost temperatures! It can form above freezing point. I've seen surface frost form on plants in air temperatures around 3 to 5C. The conditions have to be right, but as the early morning sun hits the plants it can cause evaporation of dew on the surface which causes the...

    Let the hardening begin!

I started hardening off my plants last night. My shelf setup has become a jungle and the plants are starting to suffer for it! A lot of the baccatum have grown so tall that they have reached the lights and started growing sideways and any direction but up.   I don't even have my raised beds...

seeds Germinating Seeds - my method. What's yours?

I like that approach also. When I ran out of peat pellets, that approach got me 100% germ rate on my carolina reaper seed. When do you transplant the seedling from the tray? I transplanted mine too early and there wasn't nearly enough root mass to hold the soil ball together.

Any One Growing Aji Habanero, Is this normal

These are 2 of my 8 Aji Habanero plants. It's the first time i've removed them from the shelf and they were all tangled up with the other plants! It took me 5 minutes to fish them out of the jungle. It's definitely time to move them outside...they look starved for light with the leaves all...

Any One Growing Aji Habanero, Is this normal

My Aji Habanero plants are super tall also! Not lanky though, since topped them at the 2nd set of true leaves. They branched out like crazy after that. No weird leaves though. Maybe it's a nutrient thing? I've been feeding them a weak solution of the miracle gro blue crystals since they were...
