    flavor crazy phenos/good taste

+1 for Goronong.   It's a great general purpose Chinense, with mild'ish flavor and low end hab heat. My Goronong plant was fairly prolific and early to set fruit as well.

    How long till fresh peppers?

Hop on a big jet plane and travel the World. They should be ripe when you get back.   The superhots tend to take a good bit longer than habaneros/scotch bonnets, if that's any gauge for you.    Now, i'm talking about ripening time once the fruit actually sets. If you don't have ideal growing...

    High temp Woes

You need a more long-term solution. Get some 40% shade cloth (large rolls of black can be had on Amazon for cheap'ish). Or you can use berlap and try to match the weave spacing to a 40% shade cloth. **I'm also in Sacramento.   For the immediate, you can certainly move them to a more shaded location.

    chinense Bonnie Golden Ghost

How is yours doing? Of all my plants (50+ varieties) my Golden Ghost has the most fruit-set so far. It's doing really well with its vegetative growth as well. To me it seems like it's an annuum x chinense cross.

    Exotics

Has it started fruiting yet? Did you need to take any precautions last winter for it (not sure where in FL you are)?   Mine actually do fine with my winters so long as the mix they're in is fast-draining.

    Exotics

White-fleshed varieties are basically just muted versions of red/purple varieties. Granted, even red/purple are less 'in your face' flavor compared to many other fruits.    I think you can get away with growing them to size to produce fruit in a pot that you can bring indoors for winter. 15...

    Bubblegum 7

I'm not sure if the flavor justifies its surge in popularity; I think it was mostly the novelty of the bleeding calyx. Although 7 Pots in general are pretty impressive for flavor.
  8. Spicy Mushroom

    Exotics

Yep, and the plants themselves are usually 20 a pop at a size you can very easily get over the spring/summer from those lil' guys. Even bigger given the right love. The issue is not knowing the flesh color. That is a big factor imo as far as culinary value goes.    Of course you can always grow...

    Exotics

I have 4 dragonfruit cacti growing. Is yours red-fleshed? The white-fleshed are more bland in flavor. They're an awesome plant, and grow larger than one would expect in small amount of soil.   **Edit: You know those lil' columnar cactus plants with the brightly colored round cacti grafted on...

Does anyone grow Eggplants aka Aubergine?

Next year i'm growing at least 6 different varieties. It will be a first for me.   When I order live plants I order from Chiliplants dot com. They also sell live eggplants. Here is a listing of their eggplants. Perhaps it's the "Applegreen"?  ...

Do you recall where you sourced the DM seeds? None of mine germinated this year :(

    When and how far?

Bees fly, yo. I have an apple tree here that is not self-fertile, and yet it gets apples most years. This is due to pollinators traveling a good distance from whatever other apple tree is somewhere in the neighborhood or further, and then to mine. I agree with AndyW, it's best  to cover the...

    Bubblegum 7

I've never had any 'Bubblegum' peppers or crosses. This year i'm growing the 'Bubblegum Naga Orange', which is obviously a Bubblegum X Naga cross. They look like they're going to be yummy to me.   By 'Bubblegum 7', are you talking about 7 Pot Bubblegum in general? They were all the rage here a...

What got you interested in that particular cross? Is there another annuum x chinense that turned you on to the idea?

chinense Chocolate Bhutlah DM vs Black Bhutlah SLP

Based on various photos and descriptions I was set on growing out the Chocolate Bhutlah DM this grow. They look great. Unfortunately, I got 0% germination after two attempts (I germinated 70+ other varieties fine). Sourced from worldshottestchiles dot com.   So I guess that means I would choose...

    Strange(?) behaviour of transplants

There have been a few times I felt I was premature when planting starts from indoors/shaded nursery into my raised beds, and I found it quite effective to simply place an upside down pot/bucket over the plant. This allowed me to control how much sunshine hits the plant in the day, assuming I...

    Help with Root/Compaction/Fungal/Mold Problems....

If you think you might be overwatering, it's quite likely that you are. I base that on my experience with helping friends and family. They say something along those lines a lot, and they are always guilty of it. From my experience, most people either water too much or completely neglect the...

What becomes of the surplus harvest?

Every year so far most of my surplus has been pickled. I actually love pickling! There is a lot of freedom for experimentation. Also a great way to include all the various other fruits, veggies, and herbs in the garden.    This year I plan to make a lot of spicy guacamole. Same deal with pairing...

Sliced super hots for nachos? Any Ideas?

That's absolutely me to a T. I'm a Chinense guy. 80% of my Chinense peppers are diced up right off the vine and applied directly to a meal (uncooked). The rest is pickled. A snack I really love is cubes of cheese and pieces of raw Chinense. I skewer that with a toothpick. Most of my Bahamian...

    Strange(?) behaviour of transplants

I'm surprised they grew so much and flowered in a dim indoor setting.    Your assumption is right. They were not hardened off. That's a gradual process, and it's not just temps but every element of outdoor weather they need to acclimate towards.   **Edit: The plants in the photos look alright...
