    Smokin' Black Cherry Bourbon Sauce

That sounds outstanding! Love the way you reverse engineer by mass using the metric system. You engineered a sauce much more complicated than what I did. Bravo!! I'll be bookmarking this recipe to try soon. Thank you!

Question: Decreasing capsaicin sensitivity and related symptoms

That is completely insane!!! Why, oh why would anyone do that? So has anyone every experienced the numbing sensation to which I was referring after eating "hotter than usual" peppers?

Question: Decreasing capsaicin sensitivity and related symptoms

I've been making more and more of my own hot sauce lately. Most times, I make it hotter than my previous batch. The last batch had a couple ghost peppers in it and while eating through a jar (with hummus and pita), I hit a big chunk of Bhut and, for me, it was REALLY hot. I had to put it down...

tutorial All about soil - A great resource I thought I would share

Here's the material I've used in the past: http://epminerals.com/axis.html They have several grades, I've used a mixture of course and fine. Course is screened 3/8" on the top and 1/16" on the bottom and is quite granular. Cheaper than Hydroton/agri-grade LECA and considerably better IMO.

tutorial All about soil - A great resource I thought I would share

A couple things I've learned about peat and coir over the years: There is a HUGE variety of coir on the market. Most gardening coir comes from Sri Lanka. Some of it is very salty with an excessively high eC as delivered. The best comes from inland Sri Lanka locations where it is surrounded by...

    Let's Talk About Record Keeping

Excel all the way! That way you can manipulate percentages and have everything auto-calculate and update when experimenting "on paper". I've found it much faster to do it this way in terms of record keeping and "paper" experimentation.

    Cuban oregano or Spanish thyme

Completely off topic but here goes anyway: I helped a neighbor plant a greek oregano lawn about 10 years ago. We solarized the existing lawn (covered it with clear plastic) and let it bake for about a week and a half. Then we simply brought in a friend's hydroseed rig and did a 500% overspray...

shopping help trying to buy light

Any fluorescent with a color around 3,000K will do. Keep the bulb about 6" over the tops of the plants and make sure you have a way to adjust the height of the light. Lights in the color range are not that common since most are rated 4000 - 5000K. This is the only one I could find at Home...

Last Habaneros of 2011! Time to make some sauce (pics inside)

Good point Pablo, mashes always are redder and have "deeper" flavor. I sure do like vinegar based sauces though this wasn't very "vinegary" (still delicious) After pounding through a good amount of this sauce this evening with pita, hummus and my new shiny sauce, I've come to the conclusion...

Last Habaneros of 2011! Time to make some sauce (pics inside)

Many thanks to user InCider for inspiring me to do this tonight. He made a delicious looking sauce that is similar last week So I had 110 grams of red habs and I really, really like Torchbearer #42 Slaughter sauce. I figured that this was a great evening to try and replicate the sauce. It...

    Rockwool Question?

Here's my two most recent germinations (put em in early since I had room in the system). One genovese basil, the other is bunching green onions. LED light looks funny with a cameraphone - sorry for the poor quality. I tuck the cubes into 2" net pots with a 12-ounce/yd geotextile (keeps light out...

    Rockwool Question?

Depending on what I'm germinating, rockwool tends to do pretty well. My only objection is that is holds a larger percentage of water (and lessor percentage of air) when wet. So every once in a while, I've seen it create damping off during unfavorable conditions. However, these properties make it...

A Ridiculously Improvised DWC Hydro Setup. (Now a grow log!)

Go soil! So much less complicated and high buffering capacity. Your plants speak for themselves. Have you ever seen the movie "A Man Named Pearl" ? ( If you have netflix it's on demand: http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/A_Man_Named_Pearl/70102771?trkid=438403 ) It's about a guy who has this...

A Ridiculously Improvised DWC Hydro Setup. (Now a grow log!)

Amen to smaller reservoirs experiencing wilder pH changes. My current DWC only holds ~3 gallons of solution and can experience a pH rise of almost 1 full point (i.e. 5.2 --> 6.2) over 18 hours of "on" time. The plants don't really seem to care. I've found that as long as they consistently get...
