I've tried nuking soil a few times and always end up stopping it before done due to various things in the soil going off like fire crackers. Boiling is "more gooder" in my opinion.
Please send your weather this way ASAP! I'm so sick of this heat it's amazing. Humidity finally has started to drop but each day I spend outside in plus 110 degree heat makes me think about moving back to the snow.
I have a highly accurate temperature logger that can be set to record readings from every second to every day and I clipped it to my belt on Tuesday to see what actual working temps were for me. In the morning I was in and out of the office and truck but around 7:00 I went out into the lot to...
These are a few of my volunteer hybrids during the peak heat of our 121 day this week. Only a few hours later they look healthy and great again. Most wilted I've ever seen that still bounce back each evening.
Follow up on the "extra" pumice... When the rail car would not release anything with the bottom door fully open my crew was summoned. They typically use vibrators attached to each side of the hopper to assist with material flow. This pumice was so damp you could make snow balls out of it. ...
Very good point that I hadn't considered. We do have decent soil from the millions of years of CACTUS dust. LOL Think I'll stockpile it for now. Maybe add to garden slowly.
We have 2K tons of 1/8' minus pumice coming in overnight by rail for transfer and distribution via trucks. During the transfer there is always waste from product falling from conveyors, rail car door issues etc. The spillage just gets tossed into the dumpsters unless someone wants it. ...
The past years its continued as normal even in the "winter". This year I hit it with 48-0-0 and now 11-52-0. This is the same fert's given around here to all commercial fields for max production. Fruit yield has improved but fewer and smaller leaves this summer. Hit 108 here on Friday and...
I have a Serrano that's multi years old now and every 2 to 3 weeks I prune it back and pick around 10 lbs of pods to share at work. This year the fert's have the pod production way up but leaves are small and few. Odd but its still producing and happy so not changing things. I keep it cut...
The issues with using it are...
It's much less than 50% light passage and since its not designed to be used exposed to light they don't bother making it UV resistant so it will rapidly degrade in direct sunlight. Many better ways to go.
Just snapped this pic a few minutes ago. Be nice now because this plant was dug up in February and transplanted a few dozen yards away then hit with 48-0-0 the same day. It dumped all of its leaves and I figured it was toast. It's coming back fast and furious and if you zoom in you can see...
I have two of my hybrids from last years left and are now at my roof line but few leaves as I hit them with the same 48-0-0 in February. They are just now starting to come around with new leaves. Hundreds of volunteers from them though.
