What is the "Hot" Pepper to be Growing in 2009...

Definitely! Particularly the 7 pod, scorpion and fatalii :mouthonfire: Wish I could have got hold of seeds for the 7 pod in February, but hopefully I'll be able to get them for next year, or start them off early in October or November. I've got a 2 year old Thai Dragon that is good for...

    lighting question about some lights.

How many hours per day are you illuminating for? Out of interest, what do you pay per kWh in the US?

lighting LED Vs Energy saving lights)

Because these lamps are generally intended for illumination. Take for example a green LED and a deep red LED maybe at 670nm and set the radiant flux from both LEDs to be the same. To the human eye, the green LED will appear far brighter than the 670nm LED because the eye isn't as sensitive to...

    lighting question about some lights.

The actinics are likely to be useful - 460nm moreso than the 420nm, but I would change the lamps in the MH fittings with lamps with a warmer colour temperature like 4200K.

UK Hot sauce shop (i was like a kid in a sweet shop!)

I went past a place in Milton Keynes a few weekends back and saw for the first time these kinds of sauces and snacks being sold in a shop (I think it was called the American Food Shop). I managed to restrain myself better than you though and only got one bottle sauce and a back of habanero...

Thanks for the welcome :) I'm an opto-electronics/analogue electronics engineer at work so enjoy joining in with these types of conversations ;)

lighting LED Vs Energy saving lights)

Remember though Mike, a CFL is a relatively broad spectrum lamp extending to the IR and UV ends of the spectrum. As LEDs are monochromatic light sources, they will clearly appear brighter because the energy is concentrated into a narrow band of maybe 70nm, at your two discrete wavelengths. There...

lighting LED Vs Energy saving lights)

It's a difficult comparison to make and I'd like to see the figures. Most light sources are measured in terms of lumens per watt where compact fluorescent lamps are generally as efficient as T5 tubes, but beaten by metal halide and sodium lamps. Cool white high flux LEDs are similar to T5's...
