    Carbonero Experience?

It has been about 3 years since I last grew Carboneros, but I do seem to remember them generally having a tallish growth habit when mature. I don't recall leaf cupping being a particular issue, but mine were definitely a little hairy, especially under the leaves, see photo above. And mine...

    seeds Seed viability over time

I started several varieties this year from seeds that I bought in 2015. I even had 100% germination on a couple of them: 3/3 for Fish pepper and 4/4 for Aji Rosita. The seeds were stored in the fridge for part of the intervening years.

What is this - a habareaper? Moved here on advice

Correct.     In that case, it is probable that the red plant (and possibly even the orange ones) were grown from cross-pollinated seed. There can be both pure and crossed seed inside the same pod, since each seed is a separate fertilization event. The mother plant could have been...

    Plant dormancy needed?

So long as you are able to provide favorable growing conditions (good lighting, nutes, temperatures) your pepper plants will keep chugging along. As you said, they are perennials.

I have done this as well. Sowed pepper seeds right out of the pod. They germinated.

Aji Mango: Which is the original? Which one is better?

I have grown both. To me. the flavor seemed very similar if not identical, but the elongated type was significantly hotter and had a sharper, stingier burn. So for me, the heat level and the appearance were the only notable differences between the two. I don't know if the elongated pheno is...

overwintering Would this work for overwintering

I don't know if I would want to keep them in an unheated garage in Michigan all winter. You say that it rarely drops below freezing in there, but one time may be all it takes.    I understand not wanting to bring pests inside, which is why I would douse them with Neem, including the roots, and...

    Purple roots on chili plants

Yes, I have seen that before with PDN, and on some other varieties as well. It is just a little anthocyanin in the roots; I wouldn't worry about it.

misc Are Capsicum annuum peppers worth growing?

I can think of a few interesting ones that you might want to consider before just giving up on annuums completely.   Jamaican Mushroom: Cool shapes, a nice sweet taste, and they can be pretty hot for an annuum.   Fish Pepper: Pretty plants that produce good tasting peppers.   Antep Aci...

    Unknown yellow thingamajig

I doubt it. The calyx in the first picture looks a bit big for a typical chinense variety. I think it is more likely to be an annuum variety. Are you getting multiple pods/flowers per node? Pics of the plant and flowers could help verify the species.

plant Need help with mislabeled plants!

To me, that last one looks more like the red Scorpion strain from CARDI than it does the Butch T.   The others might be mislabeled or they could be accidental crosses. If the farmer is as disorganized as you say, he might not be isolating his plants very well, or at all.

Buying seeds from random vendors on Ebay and Amazon can be a bit of a crapshoot. Next time, I recommend that you choose one of the more reputable seed vendors that you can find right here in the Vendor Vault. Their seeds may cost a little more, but just might save you several months of...

    Mystery peppers turning brown

Pepper pods can sometimes develop a bit of darker coloration like that as a response to an abundance of sunlight. It is caused by a pigment called anthocyanin. It is basically the plant equivalent of a sun tan. That is what the streaks on your peppers look like to me.   As far as what type of...
