Best time of the year to order seeds?

Late fall, around November or so for me. That is typically about the time that my usual vendors finish updating their websites with all the new varieties they grew that year. But anytime that something really cool pops up is also a good time to order seeds.  :)

    Name that Pepper!

Just be patient and wait until they ripen to their final color for best heat and flavor.

    CaneDog 2020

I found the Lemon Spice to be really sweet and mild. It actually reminded me a little bit of Aji Fantasy. But the Orange Spice was much hotter than the Lemon. It might just be the hottest Jalapeno that I have tried so far.

What hath I wrought? Soapy Pumpkin Peppers

You could dry them and make powder. That can really help mitigate soapy and floral flavors. Who knows, they might make a very good powder.

Does pod shape dictate offspring shape?

I don't think it works that way, since pod shapes are determined by the genetics of the mother plant and not by the genes of the seeds inside the individual pods. But if you have more than one plant, then saving seeds from the plant that produces the best phenotypes is more likely to have the...

What hath I wrought? Soapy Pumpkin Peppers

I think that is not a Datil plant. The pod shape looks more typical of a baccatum variety than a chinense to me. Also the fact that you seem to be getting only one pod per node supports the idea that it is not a chinense. Also, the soapy taste is a characteristic that some baccatums can...

favorite Favorite peppers between 30-50k Scoville scale

Aji Guyana, Aji Rainforest, Barra do Ribiero, and Brazilian Starfish are all excellent IMO. Aji Guyana was one of my best producers last season too.

    chinense mild Capsicum chinense peppers

I am highly skeptical of the "strong mint like flavor" claim. I have never had a pepper that tasted like mint and I have tasted a few.    The video on that page seems to be in Russian or some other Slavic language. Maybe they really said "strong chinense flavor" or something else but it was...

seeds What traits do you look for when choosing plants for seeds and crossing?

The heat and flavor of the pods are my highest priority. The best tasting ones are the genetics that I most want to grow.   Other considerations for me are the productivity and general hardiness of the individual plants, and finally cosmetic considerations like cool looking pods or plants.    It...

Something is eating my chilli plant!

Those half-circle cuts look like the damage caused by leaf cutter bees. I have them too. They use the leaf pieces to build their nests. Even though the damage can look really ugly, it doesn't seem to seriously harm or even set back the pepper plants. Also, the bees are considered beneficial and...

My first grow!!! If that’s what I’ll call it!

I have seen seedlings recover from even worse setbacks than that. Pepper plants can be surprisingly resilient. Why not give it the chance and see what happens? But in the future, I would suggest using garden twine or plant ties instead of zip ties if you must stake very young plants.

    Very HOT pepper

That looks like it could be a Yellow 7 Pot, Yellow Moruga Scorpion, or Yellow Brain Strain. What was it supposed to be?

    issue Is this edema?

Yes, new growth should be normal once you get your watering dialed in. The existing leaves will stay as they are, but I generally don't bother pruning such leaves since the plant still uses them for photosynthesis. And sooner or later, the plant will probably drop the affected leaves itself...

    chinense mild Capsicum chinense peppers

Venezuelan Tiger, Grenada Seasoning and Trinidad Perfume would be my top picks from your list, in that order. And no, they do not all taste about the same. Those three are quite different from each other.   NuMex Suave Orange and Habanada are both good choices if you want a pepper that tastes...

    issue Is this edema?

Yes, that looks like edema. Cut back on your watering a bit for the plants that have edema.
