I agree @HeatMiser, Paul's mix looks like the caviar of pepper soil. When I hear someone interested in brewing their own mix, I point them to InTheGarden(aka Ganga Girl) on the GrassCity forums. She does(did?) it right and cheap.

If the compost has good water retention ability, you may be able to skip the Vermiculite. If my base was just a good compost and perilite I'd go 6parts Compost, 2 or 3 parts perilite. For every 7.5 gallon of mix I'd put not more than 4-5 cups total of organic amendments, 1 cup of dolmite...

3-4" of snow on the ground with a hefty ice glaze. A little more in the morning. Snow is the best thing for the ground in the cold of winter. Still pre-season for me except some old seed lots that sprouted and thought I'd give'em a chance. They seem to be liking their soil. My growing garage...

I grew them several years ago, but only got a few and the flavor raw was not impressive. Roasted could be another story. I think it's an Indian variety. Does India export seed to you? I found my new favorite last fall, an heirloom Japanese -Kyoto Red. Very tasty. Also Baker Creek.
