    pod Chile Rayado Species?

Yes, Chile Rayado is the fastest germinating, easiest pepper to start from seed, that I have encountered. I've also found the seed to maintain vitality for quite a while.

    pod Chile Rayado Species?

They seem very quick to germinate and grow rapidly. I bet they'll produce a nice crop for you, even this year. I'm happy to have some pepper lovers growing these. It's good to spread the seed around and make it more secure!

    pod Chile Rayado Species?

Oh my goodness! The video from Radio y Televisón de Hidalgo, was made RIGHT WHERE I used to visit! Made me smile, as I used to joke that everyone there was either a Trejo, an Hernández or both! That's exactly where my seed came from. Though, I noticed that they said they select for the most...

    pod Chile Rayado Species?

Thank you, everyone! I am very appreciative of your input! It's interesting that Chile Rayado even tastes smoked, when it's not. My wife cuts and dehydrates them, using them in hot sauce and cooking. They lend a smoky flavor to anything we add them to. In Mexico, I remember seeing them being...

    What's a good n00b tomato?

Your climate will make a lot of difference for what will produce well for you. I've gardened in a number of different climates and the big beefsteak varieties which did so well for me in the Northeast are not much good, here in Oklahoma. Roma, which has been mentioned in several posts, is widely...

    I've lost my spicy sense!

Back in February I apparently had a really bad case of the flu. I was kind of out of it for several days. During that time I was amazed that food ONLY tasted palatable to me if I doused it in ghost pepper sauce. Normally I look hot food, but I try to moderate, as a general rule. For several...

They do look similar to what I grow. The ones I grow, however, are not mild in the least. I'm pretty sure they match most any habanero for heat. The flavor is fruity. I simply love their flavor in soups and in hot sauce.

    yield Most Productive Pepper Plant

Sirex, I've been gardening for a long time, though I don't begin to call myself any kind of a pepper expert. Having said that, I am so happy to hear of someone else who has grown Murupi Amarela peppers! I think they're wonderful! Are there several variations on them?

    pod Chile Rayado Species?

Nope. Seeds are normal yellow/tan in color. This pepper starts up unusually well in cooler temperatures, but also tolerates a lot of heat. The only thing I've seen kill it is excessive moisture. Last summer we had much more rain than usual and I lost a good many plants to a fungus on their...

    pod Chile Rayado Species?

My family lived in Central Mexico from about 1988 until 2001 and I used to go back down for a couple weeks a year, until 2010. For the last 8 plus years we lived there, we lived in the State of Hidalgo. The pepper which seemed most in demand in our local market was called Rayado, which in...

    yield Most Productive Pepper Plant

I haven't grown a huge selection of hot peppers, though my father used to grow quite the assortment, for many years. The one I have had the largest yields has been murupi amarela, which was sold as Ají Yellow #2 by ChilePlants.com.    Each plant produces more hot peppers than I need, for hot...

    Introducing myself: George McLaughlin Jr.

Howdy! My name is George McLaughlin Jr. I don't always use the junior part, but it does distinguish my from my father, who was also big into gardening.   I've gardened all my life, having my first personal garden (just my own) in 1966. My main interest has been in growing food crops, and a...
