Well it doesn't hurt them at all with the light that close.  They just get a little "suntan".  If you want to raise light you can.  I would suggest 18/6 or 24 hours of light.  I run mine 24/7.

Light intensity is the reason for that.  Looks like you might have something else going on there tho by the looks of your true leaves.

I was gonna say,  7-9 days is very normal.  I don't think your method is any faster,  just being honest.

My question is: how do you know which is a pure strain or what any one pepper SHOULD look or taste like? Who decides that? Landrace strains are hard to come by and who knows how it has evolved over the years?

Wow!  

Getting strong thick stems and stalks usually has more to do with exercising your plant. A good way to do that is to get a strong fan on them and make sure they are always moving in the wind. Gotta keep them babies dancin. I also shake my plants almost like you were trying to pollinate them...

Def a great pepper. I was just giving you the raspberries man. They are awfully similar especially taste wise. How far from Charleston or Sikeston are you? I drive through there frequently.
