i trim off those low ones close to the soil.   i like my plant to look like a small tree, with bottom 12" just bare trunk. 

eh found my timer gave up and hasn't been watering for another week.  seems like these watering valve / timers always fail after a year or two no matter the brand. i kinda want to pony up for the 80-100$ higher quality dig but oh well, guess i'll just buy another cheap timer.   red and yellow...
