What tomatoes are you growing? 2015

Sorellina, Thanks for the heads up.  I am a rookie when it comes to knowing much about tomatoes.  I normally focus on peppers, but have so darn many in the freezer.  I am looking forward to the black tomatoes.  Last year I grew some chocolate cherry, but was not thrilled with the taste.

What tomatoes are you growing? 2015

Going to be a experimental year for me.  I have loads of tomatoes already canned, so this year I am going to grow these to see what I like for fresh eating.  So many different kinds, but I have to start someplace.  The first 5 strains, I got in a seed train. They were donated by Fiogga   Carbon...

    seed-train Scorched Train 2015-2016

The seed train was sent out to parker49 today around noon.  It should arrive in his mail Monday per the post office.   It is getting pretty full, as I used this as a chance to donate plenty of seeds that I had that are different from what is already there.   Lots of selections.

    seed-train Scorched Train 2015-2016

The train arrived today from TexasHotPeppers - safe and sound!   Lots of goodies to chose from.  I will get my donations added tonight and plan on getting this back in the mail system tomorrow (assuming I can get my seeds in the package - it is pretty full right now)   I will give a shout out as...

Turbo 2015 Pepper Growing: Keeping It Simple (Stupid)

Even when you try to keep it simple, there is nothing wrong with letting yourself have a few goodies.  Otherwise this would be to much like a job rather than a hobby!   Looks like a great start!.

    The Pacific Northwest GLOG 2015

Jim,   It is just a smoky Mountain gas smoker.  Nothing fancy, but it works well and best of all is stainless steel and has lasted many years.  I have several apple trees as well as chips from a large cherry tree that died, so I have plenty of fruit wood chips for it.   Thanks Paul,   If I can...

    The Pacific Northwest GLOG 2015

Jim Considering how many different ones I like but am not planting this year, I surprised myself with the list.  You are right in that the list may grow, so I will have to really work on self control.   I really have to work down the numbers of peppers I have in the freezer already, before my...

Great idea, and I should have thought of that!   Oh well,  guess I can experiment again in 2015 and see what my results are like.  I was not impressed for 2014, but it was not a real controlled experiment, so I will try it again, as the concept of the cloth pots with more air reaching the roots...

    PaulG 2015

Paul,   Interesting to see your 7 Pot Barrakapore cuttings.  Since they have leaves, I would assume they must be doing OK, but no visible roots yet?  You must be treating them very well.  Will be interested in seeing how your cloning goes, as I have never tried that with pepper plants and know I...

OP   Interesting to see that soil, as I live in Kent/Covington and had never seen that brand of mix.  Will have to check it out.    I will be mixing up my own soil again this year by recycling last years and adding a few things.   How fluffy is the soil?   I have been adding decomposed bark dust...

OK,   Been spending the day picking through my seeds to make my list for this year.   Looks like I have boiled it down to about 56 varieties.  Now to keep the total number of plants down to a manageable number so I can grow something else in the garden this year.   I should be getting these...

    The Pacific Northwest GLOG 2015

I am really procrastinating so far.  Been waiting on a seed-train to see if they is anything I might be interested in, so stalling on making my 2015 list.   Guess I better get off my duff and put pen to paper and get the list started and then I can narrow down.   So much pressure!   Lol, I will...

I planted Choc Bhut's and Peach Bhut's last year and they did OK.  The Peach Bhut's never grew as large as pods as the other Bhut's (red, Yellow, Choc)  but the plant grew OK for me.

    ChiliHeads as thieves???

Ajdrew,    I agree, the visual in my head of a pepper ninja is funny.   I keep waiting for the neighbor hood kids to try to raid my garden of peppers.  They would be pretty surprised if they tried to chomp on most of the peppers.  Although that would be a pretty good deterrent for the rest of...

    ChiliHeads as thieves???

In reading the article I saw where he has grown several other hybrids which are hotter than the Reaper, which seemed to help me (in my mind) understand why he would be keeping some secrets.    Not sure the Reaper itself is being kept secret anymore since you can buy it at some many places.  ...
