    BPWilly's 2014 grow

Devv,    Will do.  Since we are hosting the dinner, I can only blame myself this time around!   Jim, Well it is a great way to use up some of that treasure we have been growing all summer, and a good excuse to take a break, read the newspaper, have a coffee and some toast with hot jam!  My idea...

    PaulG 2014

Jim, Paul   Just a side observation from this year,  This was my first year to grow a few Manzanoes and Rocotos, and they seemed to do OK up here where they were in the sun most of the day, but since it does not get too hot, that might have helped.  One thing I did notice is that with the...

    BPWilly's 2014 grow

Chuck, Good to hear things at work are doing well.  Not much fun living out of a suitcase or only having one day a week at home.   Hope you get to see your son this holiday and have a great time!   Let me know when you want to chat on Jams, I got plenty of recipes off the web and have had...

    Devv's 2014- Stick a fork in me, I'm done....

That just plain makes my back hurt looking at those piles.   Should have bought some stock in Tylenol!     Great looking pile of future winter warming firewood!   Have a great Holiday!

    PaulG 2014

Paul,   Best thing about this pepper growing hobby is that there are more mysteries than facts.  Makes it fun to try different approaches.  Thanks for the notes,  nebulous is about as close as we can get sometimes in this game!   Have a great holiday and fingers crossed for the Seahawks!   Bill

    PaulG 2014

Paul,   Great to hear about the Germ-off results.  Do you have any idea what the magic temp number might be when there starts to be a difference?  I dialed my dehydrator in at 104 deg this year and while it does take longer for things to dry, I did notice better color retention with the...

    BPWilly's 2014 grow

It is good.  I had a boatload of Blackberries in the freezer and since I needed to free up some space, I used a juicer to get Blackberry juice and I love the Black Congos, so it was just a marriage made in pepper heaven.   Plus it is darn easy to make, I just modified one I found on the web that...

    BPWilly's 2014 grow

Thanks Chuck, You have a great one as well.  Going to be a small one this year with only a few couples at the house, but that just means I get to relax more and watch the games.   Well, I have not been very active on this forum lately.  Getting distracted by all the items needing to be done...

    Devv's 2014- Stick a fork in me, I'm done....

You guys are making me hungry with all this talk about brisket!  Yum!.    Have you ever tried a chipotle rub on your brisket?  I made one a few years back that had a mild bite to it and seemed to be enjoyed by everyone.  Most were a little worried when I told them it had chipotle peppers in it...

    Devv's 2014- Stick a fork in me, I'm done....

Scott,  That Live Oak sure sounds like hard wood when it dries.  How is it to split when it is still green?   I remember years past a fellow offered me some low cost firewood from a big old maple he had cut down a while before.  He had some rounds that were about 5 feet across.  I spend al,ost 2...

To the pros - if you were to give your best advice on first time growers what would it be ?

A bit of help I received a few years back was to remind me that this is just a hobby, and hobbies are suppose to be fun, so just relax and don't stress to much.    Peppers are just like weeds, they do just fine in the wild, so they should be able to do fine in a domesticated garden as long as...

    Devv's 2014- Stick a fork in me, I'm done....

Devv,  the garden  cover crop is looking pretty good and I bet it looks a whole lot better once you get the rain.  Wish I could send some of ours down there, as we have had more than enough lately.  Been pulling all my peppers that have any color so I can wrap this season up.   Looking forward...

    Ideas for sauces using Fatalii?

Try making them into a jam.  Last year I made a Fatalii and Pineapple jam and it is great on toast in the morning or later in the day on crackers and cream cheese.   You can substitute Fatalii's for Habaneros in any of the Habanero jam recipes on the web.   Fataliis seem to go well with...

    PIC 1's...Pepper Graphic...2014

Great Glog to read this year. You sure do have the growing peppers process down pat, as well as so many ways to utilize them.  Loved seeing all the garden and food shots this year, thanks for the visual treats!

Congrats on the Tepins.     This is my first year growing them, and while the plants has lots of pods, all of them re still green.  Not a single one has colored up at all.  I might see if I can move it into the greenhouse and see if I can get at least another 30-45 days more growing out of it...

Trimming is a lot of work

PMD,  Thanks for the update on the trimmers.  Will be needing to get ready soon so it is nice to hear of someone's first hand experience.   And you and SL both make me jealous.  Both of those fine pictures had some nice looking bud.   Always nice to see others efforts.

    Carolina Reaper (HP22B) Community Grow

Bob,   For me, the best part about this pepper growing addiction is seeing the differences each of us experience.  There sure does not seem to be a single right way, more like many right ways and many "not so right" ways, and then we get to add the instability factor of many of these new crosses...

Spicy Chickens Barn Conversion. Extreme Makeover Farm Edition.

I will be following this build for sure.  I do not know a lot about building a CNC Router, but the idea and concept is very interesting.  Will be watching how you go about this.   Thanks for sharing

Blorvak's Greenhorn 2014 - End of Season Wrap Up!

Nice summary about your experiences this year.  Got me thinking about my own year and what worked and what did not work.  Will definitely have to try and capture those thoughts and use them to improve on next year.  Interesting that your plants did better in the root pouches than the soil.  I...
