You know, I'm not 100% sure at this point. Just a fairly large amount of smoke started coming from the oven when I was broiling some fish. I did spray the pan with no-stick but have done so before without issue. C/B something left over from the last use, but I can't think of what. Been puzzling.- geeme

Don't you hate it when..?
The real question is why do you think you have to wait a year? So many of us start seeds indoors and chiles can be grown inside as houseplants until it's time to harden off and take outside. Start some new seeds today! G- geeme

I was in a track meet today and started off with the long jump. I just started learning it in August last year then, of course, had almost no practice once the winter cold and snow hit. So I'm still in newbie phase, and am just not consistent yet. Still, I've been jumping just shy of the 10 ft...- geeme

I recently read somewhere (might have been over the rainbow...) that soaking older seeds in a solution of water and potassium nitrate (aka: saltpeter) will help them sprout. Haven't tried it yet, but your mention of seeds never sprouting reminded me of it. Thinking I'll do a side-by-side soon.- geeme

Thanks! Malarky, he actually soaked it in straight water until the seed casing completely softened - more than a week - before putting it into starter soil. That was the real surprise - that it took over a month even after that point!- geeme

Oh yeah...... Kansas sucks. Seriously, it is the ONE state that I'd say actually deserves its reputation.
