Go forth and make ramen (noodles)!

So my first go at making ramen was a big fail. Second attempt was much better, but still have lots of experimentation. Here's an album I started on imgur to document things. The photo of the actual noodles was from my second attempt, all other photos were from my first attempt.  ...

    When to start hand-pollinating

can you cross pollinate with a qtip? anyway it wouldnt be 100% success yes you can cross pollinate with a qtip. your chance of success goes up if the two varieties are known to be able to cross, and you've emasculated the mother flower so that it doesn't self pollinate. in addition isolating...

    When to start hand-pollinating

You need pollen to pollinate. Whether the flowers are open or not is not important, as long as you have some pollen. By that line of thought, if you do have an open flower near by that is producing pollen (look at the stamens), then use a soft brush or qtip to move it from that flower to other...

    craft beer

Here's a Japanese brew that is available in the US. It's from Ibaraki Prefecture (state) that I lived at when I first moved to Japan. Didn't know about it until recently and picked up a bottle on my way home tonight. Good marketing (I like the label a lot), but the flavor is...lacking. Sorta...

    organic Organics 101

Anecdotal, but I have noticed that when I used regular liquid ferts that my plants grew faster. From what I understand from the literature in Japan, plants do indeed grow faster with regular fertilizers, but there are downsides such as tougher skins and weak flavors. Seems the literature here...

so the question still exists, can there by a hybrid synthetic organic method that brings the best of both worlds? no doubt synthetic is faster but from what I gather organic is more delicious.

Probably organic "propaganda", nothing I use damages soil microbes...  I wouldn't pour synthetic motor oil on the plant, but these nutrients are OK; they can coexist with the soil microbes.  Keep in mind it disqualifies your plant from being called "organic" at that point though. yah...

I was just looking at bokashi videos on youtube!  I want to experiment by getting the bacteria from different readily available sources and compare the results to as starter made with the em-1 inoculant, (to save people money.)   PMD, I respect and actively participate in organic gardening...

Did I hear this guy right?  Two inches of composted leaves will supply a plant with everything it needs for an entire season??  No need for additional fert or soil amendments???  I don't believe it. as with all things, it's an on going cycle. 2in of compost plus additional amendments each...
