    pests Bug I.D.

I'd kill it. It's highly unlikely to be your friend, at best annoying and might bite you.

One plant dropping leaves, one plant seemingly dying?

part of growing peppers is losing peppers. I don't mean to sound harsh but this sort of thing happens a LOT. For example last year I lost pretty much everything to broad mites. This year I've lost a few plants to thrips and it's not over yet.

Calita Red, Habenero.... Leaves turning over, not flowering.. much

I'm going with overwatering too - or more specifically - poor drainage. I've got a plant thats similar and its because it just doesnt use enough water and sits damp for ages.

One plant dropping leaves, one plant seemingly dying?

I had a couple of plants just do this for pretty much no reason. Sometimes you never find the real reason. Sometimes the plants will come back again, one did, one didn't. Top tip from me - if you DONT know what caused it then don't try all sorts of things to fix it. You're likely to make it...

    Growth rate questions

no countermeasures except frequent misting spray to try to keep humidity up, and manual removal of adults every time I see them. I figure any pesticides will also kill the mites, and the mites are doing such a great job...   As has been said you will be fine with the mites if you do it right as...

    Growth rate questions

yep that sounds like thrips. Whitish or yellowish, older ones are light brown, I rarely see any dark ones here. Its the rice shape that gives them away.   amblyseius will do it - sticky traps are useless, ladybugs....meh..but definitely do the amblyseius thing - see my thread on mites v thrips! ;)

    Diatomaceous Earth Questions

I dont think you need a mask for the food grade stuff, apparently it makes you cough if you stir it up but only in the same way that baking flour does. But, a mask can't hurt anyways. Better safe than sorry.

    Newbie Welsh Pepper Grower

my superhots are doing fiiiiine in the greenhouse over here. Been in there since april with the frosts!   Advice? Well mine would be to ignore the naysayers. UK is good for chillies, just don't expect a long season in a greenhouse unless it's heated.    Oh, watch out for condensation dripping...

Is there any cure for damping off?

isnt it slightly contagious too? If so, better to remove than try to cure...

    Diatomaceous Earth Questions

do NOT use the pool stuff. It's been heat treated and the crystals have changed form - they become harmful to your lungs in a big way. You risk silicosis. Google it.    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diatomaceous_earth#Safety_considerations

Thrips battle pt2 - predatory mite experiment! :)

Update!   I have found some adults, all clustered together on one or two leaves on one plant, they do look like theyre hiding. also numbers like 8 at most, not tonnes like before. I watched closely for a while, the mites didn't eat any of them but they're not afraid of them. Typically a mite...

Morning check before heading to work, found this

Immature pods have no seeds, also...ummm....some cross pollenations....don't produce...seeds? I'm guessing lol Certainly wouldnt worry about lack of seeds!! Maybe you can sell them for $$$ like seedless grapes or something!

Morning check before heading to work, found this

flowers drop a LOT. Annoying but sadly...common. Usually most plants do manage in the end though. Something I find causes a lot of flowers and tiny pods to drop is when the plant hits its "fruit load" limit, i.e. it has a sort of set amount it can grow dependent on its size (and other things)...

    soil Questions about recycling soil

I haven't yet because I keep getting pests, although the soil I bought this year had thrips in it so I might reuse next year anyway!!!    I think you have to rotate it eventually with another crop, otherwise why would they do that in agriculture?

Thrips battle pt2 - predatory mite experiment! :)

Yes, I read that. I'm not sure - except perhaps they withdrew when they saw a mite army approaching and flew off? It's not unlikely since they hide when a "squashy finger" approaches. If I saw a load of giant spiders approaching me I'd surely do the same!

Thrips battle pt2 - predatory mite experiment! :)

Cheers! I wish I'd known about these (or dared to use them) against broad mite last year! :)         Thanks! Well, apparently if you keep the sachets out of the sun (it dries them out) you get 6 weeks of new mites, but also apparently cucumeris can survive at least some time on pollen alone...
