Thrips battle pt2 - predatory mite experiment! :)

Well - since my thrip vac didn't work too well, in fact didn't work at all, and I don't like the idea of spraying plants, I have another trick up my sleeve.    Meet my mite army!      (I did take both those pics with my macro lens...sadly no fight image yet!)     The sachets are "amblyline...

cant get it here (except in ant powder) -- but I'm committed to not using any chemicals too, it's just my thing.

Ladies and Gents, I present to you - the Thrip-inator!

Update...   ....it doesnt work.   At all.   LOL   But it was a fun experiment. Now I have to find another way to deal with the thrip explosion that I knew was coming eventually, and has inevitably arrived.   As a side note, I've found normal sticky tape ("sellotape") to be really effective for...

    Flowers not creating pollen?

You're right - it's more than stressed, it's a mess. It had broad mites last year, it was the only plant I overwintered as it did recover well and bear fruit, but its roots must have rotted over winter too, it just never dries the soil out even after a month - seriously. It's not a happy...

    They look great, but...

Yep - I planted some bhut seeds very early - on 15 december 2013 - and until about 2 weeks ago they were in that phase yours are in. Then I turned my back for a couple days and they've built a "second storey" of leaves up above, and now are going crazy and looking tree-like.

    Flowers not creating pollen?

my overwintered scotch bonnet did this for a while, I changed the soil, whether that made a diff I don't know, but the scotch bonnet still isn't happy, it's growing pods but tiny heatless ones!!

What's the coldest weather your plants have experienced?

Mine were doing 0-1C every night for about a month, did slow them down, didn't kill them.  One observation is that it's produced very compact bushy plants compared to those indoors.

Possible to save my habanero plant?

Curious then. Usually too much water takes a good while to kill a plant to this stage, and you'd see yellow leaves, oedema, before this - unless there was a pre-existing condition that the rain exacerbated. No full sun either, so I'm stumped, but perhaps someone else can offer an explanation...

Possible to save my habanero plant?

An inch of rainwater for a couple of days would not do this I dont think - what you're seeing in my opinion would be transplant shock and/or exposure to UV. You didn't 'harden off'?

    along comes a spider?

ants 'farm' the aphids - put a grease band (or vaseline) somewhere on their path and it will deter them. Keep vaseline away from the ladybirds though..

    along comes a spider?

the white thing? wouldn't have thought so...doesnt have 8 legs either does it?    for me, ladybird larvae, about 3 on a thoroughly infested plant, cleared it in 2 days flat....so you're definitely doing the right thing! The aphids were dropping to the floor to escape, so watch out for that and...

[Pictures included] I think my chili got sick..any help?

Temperature isn't your problem - my greenhouse is full of plants that have been in there since april - range from 0C (!) to briefly in the 30+C when I forget to open the window.  Mostly they're fine. Except the ones that apparently were getting dripped on from the condensation - only just...

    The curled leaves thing.....again

Depends who you ask - I did months of research (contrary to popular belief - lol) including lurking on forums, and found no conclusive evidence, I mean, usually on forums people would be able to eradicate them with just about any chemical they tried, but they would invariably come back...

    The curled leaves thing.....again

Your entire crop. Within a week. Have you ever had broad mite? I have.  I'm not knocking it, I'm all for experimentation, but OP (well, the recent OP anyway!) needs to make an informed decision on how to save his plants.    doh. Well, I guess I'm the wrong person to ask about that, here in...

    The curled leaves thing.....again

Tea for broad mites? I guess if the tea is at 43-49C and you dunk the whole plant in it for 15 minutes, then sure it'd work!   I say stick to the known/proven methods if you want to keep any sort of crop at all, as I said, messing about with experimentation concerning broad mites is not...

    The curled leaves thing.....again

hot water dunk!    broad mite is the one and only pest you DONT want to mess about with, it's very important that you get a positive ID with a loupe and you treat ALL affected plants. Just a small number of broad mites can write off a plant's whole yield, seriously.      This was my blog...
