chinense Tried to dry whole Bhut Jolokia fruits, failure?

Better climate and or dryer as well as patience I guess.   Anyway, thanks again for all pieces of advice, the strategy I outlined above worked well. It's been exceptionally hot here so seven days spent on the balcony daytime and in the drier, speed setting 1 during the nights, yielded dried...

chinense Tried to dry whole Bhut Jolokia fruits, failure?

I received that advice from two posters on page 1 : )   (Thawing is inferred)

chinense Tried to dry whole Bhut Jolokia fruits, failure?

Regarding the aroma..I had a new (small, two plants inside) batch now of some twenty fruits of which six were 7 pot brain strain and the rest Bhut chocolate. I cut a slit alongside each fruit and upon treating the Bhuts so I noticed the floral smell. It wasn't "sickly sweet" like the ones I...

chinense Tried to dry whole Bhut Jolokia fruits, failure?

Cheers for the interesting discussion. Hm AndyW, that slightly floral smell might just take some getting used to then, haha.  Scrufy: lower setting on dehydrator to preserve color? That's also interesting.  And (Joyn too) point taken about just sunshine for superhots. Alkhall: I can believe that...

chinense Tried to dry whole Bhut Jolokia fruits, failure?

Thanks. Yes, that's the one. I actually binned these, that smell was spreading across the apartment..like rose water and chamomille. Maybe that's just how bhuts smell when they are drying, I'll know a couple of weeks from now when I do next batch..first frozen, then slit open.

chinense Tried to dry whole Bhut Jolokia fruits, failure?

Aha, thanks for the hint. I may try the slit method instead of splitting the next batch. Freezing before also sounds interesting, will try!   Right, though what constitutes natural? Using an OBH Nordica desiccator part time? Even if cut into pieces? Are you saying my bhuts are likely moldy even...

chinense Tried to dry whole Bhut Jolokia fruits, failure?

Hi, I wrote of this in the closing post of my first glog but the glog hasn't garnered so much attention lately and it was the closing post, so I'll phrase it as a direct question here. Please move, mods, if in the wrong forum.   Monday evening I picked these fruits and have been trying to dry...

My first "real" indoor grow, unknowns and purple cayenne

As a way to wrap this log up (transplants are enjoying summer from the inside of their tent, the RB on the balcony is hanging in there) I present what happens after around 20hrs in a dehumidifier (OBH Nordica Tasty) at full speed:   the cayennes appear to have dried (and become slightly...

Autumn 2018 grow (2nd grow) preparations and some questions

Hi,   I've detailed my first ever grow in a glog herearound and I'm already planning next season. Since my seasons are indoor seasons with only artificial lighting (small apartment, cats) I'll let the current plants (bhut jolokia, cayenne and 7 pot brain strain) produce over most of the summer...

    Pimentón de la Vera

Glad to see those shoots : ) Hardy little things.   Not the tiniest dried pepper fruits either, I might try not cutting my bhut jolokia in half before drying them.

    Dropped Blossom Question

Show: That's interesting to hear. Annuums seem less potentially problematic overall : ) The OP's environment doesn't seem so tropical, wood stove and all, but we don't know what the humidity or temperature are yet.

    Dropped Blossom Question

Hi, I'm a newbie doing my first season, indoors, but I've picked up a few things.   Scotch Bonnets are C chinense and they like it tropical, which means high humidity. I had a devil of a time with my two chinese plants during winter here in Sweden. They developed lots of flowers that all...

    Essegi 2018

Nice sunny (and adventurous) trip! "The start was the most difficult part" is a great shot.   Good to see jalapeño pods too.

My first "real" indoor grow, unknowns and purple cayenne

2018-04-22:   "Something different"   I trust my Sunmaster HPS more than the sun but we'll see what comes from this. Preliminary results show a certain cat-resistance :)

My first "real" indoor grow, unknowns and purple cayenne

2018-04-20:   Same old story   -'It's a Bhut world'..the superhots are enjoying summer temps outside (higher rh and temps inside)   -Electric bill is up around 130% from baseline over the two years prior to the HPS but that can't be helped. The sun cannot be counted upon and my cats do not...

My first "real" indoor grow, unknowns and purple cayenne

Thanks for the suggestion Andy, I'll do that with the troublesome ones.   "2018-04-15: Supplemental: Not all who wander are lost"   The aphid infestation doesn't appear to have taken over every leaf just yet which is just as well because I will never be able to remove the two transplants from...

My first "real" indoor grow, unknowns and purple cayenne

2018-04-14: "Admit your defeat, Corak!" "-I do; initiate self-destruct, code 0, 0, 1.:" "What? No...Nooooooo!"   What I thought was lots of pollen covering the Royal Black in soil were in fact hordes of aphids. The aphids are on the other plants too but nowhere near as numerously as on mentioned...

    My first Indoor grow

Yeah, good luck, from a fellow indoorer!   Would love to see the setup.   (That is one disco light, my Sunmaster 250W HPS with ballast looks a bit 70s in comparison. I suspect you may not be needing the added heat so much)

    Window Silly Chili 18

Nice, will be interesting to follow, as quite the opposite of what I do in terms of lighting & substrate (and possibly cat-proofing).
