I think I'm developing an unholy attraction to plants

Being into superhots you could literally say "I'm looking up ways to spice up our love life, dear. Endorphins and all......."

    fertilizer Drip Irrigation Fertilizer Injection

Actually using homemade nutrients - I mix 'em myself and it seems to work a lot better than the "bought" ones I've used in the past. It has all the usual suspect components like nitrates, phosphates, FeEDTA, etc. along with some biocomponents like cytokinins and some others. It ends up being...

    fertilizer Drip Irrigation Fertilizer Injection

Really nice garden! Queequeg nailed it with his comment. The Mazzei is a straight differential pressure/venturi injector so it is non-adjustable. With a straight venturi injector, even if you maintain a constant pressure like 20 psi, the differential pressure achieved through the "pickup" (place...

health Whats wrong with my Trinidad Scorpion plant?

If I had to guess, mild bacterial spot and a tad over fertilized. Slightly fewer nutrients and drier air should help. Are those two slugs in the pot?

They're pretty common in the greenhosue industry. I saw a lot of folks use them with good success. The reason they're so popular is you don't have to worry so much about variables like fluctuating pressure and different injection rates on branches with different flows. One really nice feature is...

    How critical is pH?

Not to confuse things even more but here goes: In hydroponics, pH is important, notably that plants like it a bit more acidic than soil/growth media growing, but I would say that solution temperature is even more critical than pH. When growing DWC, which seems to be one of the most sensitive...

Hi, I've used various fertigation units for over 15 years. Usually, the simplest design is best, but you can't use a Mazzei injector since all your branches have different flow, so injection rate would vary from branch to branch (maybe zone 1 ends up at eC 1.2 mS and zone 6 ends up at 0.8 mS)...

Completely random thread about slugs; quick way that helps to control 'em

Totally agree - using the laser is kinda of a techno-geeky way to accomplish something with star wars effect something that would take 1/5th the time with a magifying glass and sun. Black plastic and cardboard work much better for instaneous pyrogratification, they don't reflect light as nearly...

Completely random thread about slugs; quick way that helps to control 'em

They technically banned these and won't allow importation into the USA any more. You can get much more nuts than this here: http://amazing1.com/burning-lasers.htm (lots of ridiculously neat stuff on this site)

Yup, we are a little twisted compared to most I think. Ate at a local mexican place for lunch yesterday and asked for a bottle of their hottest sauce (shrimp enchiladas - yum!). They brought out a bottle of that lime green Yucateco sauce made from habs, which I really like. Ended up killing the...

    How critical is pH?

Holy cow! 9.0 ?? When you bathe in it do you come out hairless? That's amazingly alkaline. Is it all due to carbonates? What is the ppm/eC of your water? I've never heard of well water that alkaline. Intrigued.

Completely random thread about slugs; quick way that helps to control 'em

Is Sluggo just Iron Phosphate with an attractant? If so, I put some (different brand) around the edge of my garden area with good results. I haven't lost any plants to slugs this year, I'm just obsessive about them and there seem to be more of 'em around this year. I won't use chemicals in my...

    GROW BAGS??

I use fabric bags/tubes and drying out seems to have more to do with the type of mix in the bag what I've found. However, I'm guessing that the same mix in a 1-gal porous bag would dry out faster than if it were in a 1-gal plastic pot. Size has to do with it too - my tubes hold about 5 cubic...

Completely random thread about slugs; quick way that helps to control 'em

Has anyone tried using liquefied superhots as a spray? Many years ago, I used hot pepper wax for other pests with good results. I think I'll cut open a superhot this evening, rub it on a slug and see how it likes it. If it's a particularly violent reaction I'll video it and put the link up on...

    How critical is pH?

Yes, but granular, anhydrous citric acid is much stronger than a lemon.

shipping How does one package fresh superhots for mailing?

Never thought to pick them a little underripe. Thanks very much! Guess they are easier to ship than I thought - you really don't need cold packs or anything for a 1 or even 2 day shipment (assuming its not sitting over the weekend)? Cheers!

It takes a little bit of time, even at that wattage, but it's really fun. I will go take a picture of this happening and post it up. I don't know if it will come out since the beam is very bright and I have to wear goggles that dont allow me to see much. Here goes something...... Here's the...

shipping How does one package fresh superhots for mailing?

This summer and fall, I would like to send a few boxes of assorted superhots to some friends and relatives who enjoy the art of burning their faces off. Everyone is within 1 day by UPS ground, so I'll probably do that for cost considerations. My plan is: - line box w/1-2" expanded polystyrene...

    How critical is pH?

The best pH down I've used is citric acid believe it or not (granular). It's not too strong and the plants always seem to respond very well to it. Cheap too - you can find it in the canning section or spice section. $12 bought me a lifetime supply (six 7- oz ziplock packets).
