Day 152 update.
Quick update. I finally managed to get the BLS under control (or at least I think I did). I just kept on pulling off any leaves that I didn't like the look of. Some of the plants ended up pretty bare, while others weren't affected at all.
I spent the last couple of weekends...
Thanks for all of the replies.
The plant dropped a whole bunch more leaves, but it looks like there's life in the old girl yet.
I was meant to repot it into a five gallon container last weekend before it "disappeared". It will get repotted tomorrow.
So last weekend I had my plants on my deck hardening off. I guess one of my plants blew off and I didn't notice it until today. So it spent 5 days laying on its side with slugs and snails munching on it. It has also lost 3/4 of its leaves and the soil was dry as dust when I found it.
The big...
Bear in mind that if you sow your plants now and plan to let them grow all winter, they will be monsters by this time next year when it is time to plant out. You're going to need a lot of room and a lot of light to successfully overwinter them, unless you plan to hack down in size. Also be...
Looking good Dennis! My Big Jim WR looks to be about the same size as yours on the left (though I managed to damage a few leaves on mine). It's also going into a similar set up to yours, still another week or two to plant out for me then it's game on!
Thanks guys.
I haven't given up hope yet. Although I have a bunch of plants that look sadder than Charlie Brown's Christmas tree, I still have a bunch that are doing great.
Here's that mustard bhut that I posted a picture of a couple of posts back, I told you it was going to be a beast:
Day 115 update.
I've been slacking on the glog updates lately and for a good reason - I have a raging case of BLS that has affected about a third of my plants:
This is how many leaves I had to strip today, I've been stripping a similar amount every day for a couple of weeks:
Many of my...
Is it two months from the time the seed was sown, or from when the seed hooked?
I ask because my youngest plant was sown on Feb 10th (over two months ago) but didn't hook until Feb 28th (less than two months ago).
(p.s. I'm still patiently waiting for the Peruvian Serlanos to hook....)
I always hope for May 24 long weekend plant out. Last year was really mild and I got the plants out a week early, the year before was really cold and I had to wait two weeks longer.
It was 8 deg F last night (-13 deg C) and snow is forecast for the next three days...
