Some kind of common beetle, sorry don't recall the name, but have never seen em cause plant damage. Chunk him in the yard.

If young and leggy they go deeper. When setting out in ground or a larger pot they get planted at the same level and I try and remove any lower leaves that touch ground.   Maters get striped of most lower leaves/branches and trench planted.

Dunno what it sells for there. Here is Bama it's $4.50 a bale for wheat straw; up from $4 last year.

Yep, got blasted with a lot of wind in that rain. All plants in pots were blown over and rolled a ways. I'm waiting til morning to take inventory of the damage and see what survived.

Don't use hay; you'll be seeding your garden with grass and weed seed. Wheat straw is clean.   Worms can eat right through newspaper. :)

My garden of chilies receive around 11 hours of sun and all varieties seem to like all they can get in my experience. It's the heat/temps you have to watch. Pubes don't like heat at all, but most everything else will still produce pods up into the lower 90's F and even a little higher if not...
