Bodeen's 2013 Grow _-_ Love at First Sting

What is the heat level on the Cherry and Big Bombs?  Did you save any seeds to share from those?     Also, do you spray your apple trees with anything?  I have two trees, and every single apple on them had worm holes, earwigs were inside them, and the wasps were also using the worm holes as an...

Highalt's 2013 Grow - End of Season Wrap Up

Got another package in the mail today!  This one was from Rick (Stickman).       Can't wait to dip into those!  Thank you, Rick!!!   A few shots of yesterday's harvest:     At the bottom of the picture is a mystery (NOT Aji Limo Rojo), and the top is Condor's Beak.  The two plants had the...

Highalt's 2013 Grow - End of Season Wrap Up

Thank you, Shane!  You da MAN!!!   Very cool how you labeled my pic for me.     What program do you use to do that?   Yeah, that little guy to the right of the Brains had a bumpy texture, wasn't smooth like the 7 Pot Congos, so that's why I had him tentatively on his own, but near the...

Highalt's 2013 Grow - End of Season Wrap Up

Thanks GA!  Unfortunately, I had to throw out about half a dozen of those pretty tomatoes.  They had molded and rotted sitting there waiting for me to have some free time to deal with them.    :mope:   The good news is that I went by the community garden after work today, while the boys were at...

Highalt's 2013 Grow - End of Season Wrap Up

I mainly make it for the kids.  It is very similar to a gummy worm, but better tasting, and hopefully a little better for you.  I put the trays in the dehydrator for about 10 hours on 125 degrees.  Pull them off the trays (they will still be somewhat sticky.  Roll them in some sugar, and put...

Highalt's 2013 Grow - End of Season Wrap Up

Have you grown, Jaloro before?  Jaloro is a yellow to red jalapeno type with a consistent heat level and it's very productive.  I grew that both last year and this year, and it blows the Pinata away.  I'll probably just stick with that one, since it's more reliable.

Highalt's 2013 Grow - End of Season Wrap Up

Thanks, Rick!  I think I see some late nights for me this week.  I have enough peppers, tomatoes and zucchini to can some salsa, relish, and pepper jelly, but with work, soccer and football, the only time I have left is the time I am normally sleeping!!!  (Which is what I should be doing...

Have you tried Lumbre?  That one is similar in length to the Sandia, but more slender, and probably the most heat I've ever had in a NuMex type chile.  I'll be sure and save some seeds from that one!

Highalt's 2013 Grow - End of Season Wrap Up

Just a couple more shots from Sunday's harvest.     Clockwise from the top:  Birgit's Locotos, a couple of El Oro de Ecuadors, a Chilhuacle Amarillo next to a pile of Golden Cayenne's (thanks for the seeds, DocNRock!), a ton of the NOT Jamaican Hot Yellows (sweet, fairly thick fleshed with a...

Highalt's 2013 Grow - End of Season Wrap Up

So two weeks of working full time, plus the start of the football and soccer season, have taken their toll.  I finally went to the community garden yesterday, and had to throw out a couple dozen split and rotten tomatoes.  If I could have harvested them a week ago, they would have been perfect...

    stc3248, 2013 Grow log, Season's Greetings and Season's End

It looks like a bunch of pods...but really its MORE!     So what are the large yellow pods down the middle of the pic?   Nice haul on the Manzanos!  Mine is doing a lot of blooming, but no pods yet, and not sure there's enough time for them to ripen even if they do set at this point...

Highalt's 2013 Grow - End of Season Wrap Up

I was hoping to get a batch of salsa canned today, before I started working full-time, but just didn't have quite enough ripe tomatoes yet.  Will try and get that done this weekend.  Last year, I didn't have enough ripe tomatoes until October, after the first frost, so if I get a batch done...

    Pulpiteer 2013 Grow Log

Hi Andy!  It is disappointing when those bad years come along.  The past two years have been like that for me in the tomato department.  I used to do a lot of wintersowing (outdoors in recyclable containers), but the past two springs were cold and the tomatoes were so late sprouting that I...

Yeah, those poblanos are monsters.  Guess that's why they are called Ancho Grande.   The Chapeau de Frade you received were sent in for the swap.  The seed I used came from GA Growhead via DocNrock.     Haven't tasted one yet, but I'll let you know when I do.     Don't usually use meat...

    stc3248, 2013 Grow log, Season's Greetings and Season's End

I'd love to try the Belize City Scotch Bonnets!  My one Scotch Bonnet plant hasn't even started flowering.   I received a couple of Jamie's Mystery pods from him a year or two ago, but didn't have enough sense to save a few seeds, so I'd love those too.      Ooh, and since I'm making a...

Highalt's 2013 Grow - End of Season Wrap Up

Well, #%^@*^!   I am supposed to be out walking this evening with my women's group.  Instead, I am sitting here with my foot propped up with ice on it.    Walked out the door to water the containers, and 5 seconds later felt that familiar red hot poker feeling in the side of my big toe.  Stupid...

Highalt's 2013 Grow - End of Season Wrap Up

Thanks for posting that link, Sawyer!  I hadn't seen anything like it before.  Mine was missing the wooden pestle, and I had to search around quite a bit to find a replacement.     So it has been pretty cool here for early August.  This morning it felt kind of fallish.  Turns out it got down...

Highalt's 2013 Grow - End of Season Wrap Up

Sorry to take so long to respond, it has been a busy week, and it's about to get even busier.  It looks like I will be starting a new full time job, which is more in line with my education and work experience.  Very excited about it, but not sure how I will manage with all the kids school...
