Need advice... plants growing very slowly

Yeah +1, I bet my left, well you know, on it! I was afraid to give my new seedlings nutrients at first and they just didn't grow, I finally decided to give them a half strength solution of a liquid fert and WHAMO! they will double their size in less than a week, no probs since then, once they...

    My first Jolokia, budding?

Actually it is one of the more safer systemic options on the market, and only really affects humans in high doses, oh and it has a withholding period of about 7 days so could be a problem if using around harvest time! Anyway GOOD LUCK!

    My first Jolokia, budding?

Ahh yep, that's the one, it contains Dimethoate which was introduced around the 50's, it kills insects, mites and is very toxic to honey bees, birds and some aquatic organisms! It is said that in high levels it can be a problem in our blood and may cause reproductive interference(They may have...

    My first Jolokia, budding?

Yeah I know they are flamin' mongrels, almost impossible to eradicate, I had them on another CROP  years ago and battled non-stop using pyrethrum, it slows them down but thats about all, like you said it's the eggs that are the problem, a spider mite only has a 30 day life cycle but...

Need advice... plants growing very slowly

I forgot to mention but I gave mine a drink of seaweed solution in the first week, it is suppose to help with root development, but it is NOT a plant food, fish emulsion is a great source of nitrogen for seedlings and is pretty cheap too, just follow the directions, give them a slightly weaker...

    My first Jolokia, budding?

Yeah me too, but even worse I just discovered spider mites ahhh, not too many at this stage so I need to get on top of them quickly, I'll try a soap based spray(potassium salts of fatty acids) first and see how that goes as it is a safe method.

Need advice... plants growing very slowly

I had the same problem with my first Bhut Jolokia seedlings, they grew sooo slowly, weren't really doing much at all basically still tiny seedlings after 3-4 weeks, I raised them in peat pots with commercial seed raising mix which the pack said was all they needed. I decided to give them a boost...

    seeds Deformed seedlings?

They are a Bhut Jolokia/Trinidad 7 Pod hybrid, so I guess the Indian part comes from the Bhut Jolokia! I got the seeds from an organic chilli supplier in Nth. QLD, he grows hundreds of varieties on many acres. His seeds are generally good with a high germination rate, but this lot is the exception!

    soil Loosening hard soil

Gypsum(Clay-Breaker) is great for loosening hard soil, it contains calcium sulphate & increases water penetration and aeration by improving the soil structure. It breaks up heavy clay soils by chemical exchange between the clay and gypsum, causing soil to become more friable.

    My first Jolokia, budding?

Yeah I like em in pots so I can chase the sun around during the day and bring them in at night, I also have a LED light setup indoors for rainy days! Hey I have no clue what the kids are up to but I know what my chillis are doing, you've just got to have your priorities set right you know :lol...

shopping Anyone used the product organoncide?

Hey try Yates Insect & Mite Killer (Natrasoap), it got rid of my spider mites. It can be used on organic gardens and controls mites, aphids, thrips, mealybug and whitefly. Uses potassium salts of fatty acids to suffocate the buggers, it is a much safer alternative to chemical pesticides.

I don't know whether to bin them or let them grow? They just seem to be growing much slower than the other Caribbean 7 Pot!

    My first Jolokia, budding?

Yeah I guess this is the right thing to do at this stage, I will pluck all but one plant so I've got some fruit soon but an even better crop later! I checked it out it is a Dolichopodid fly common in S.E QLD region, they feed on smaller soft body insects such as aphids and other insects larvae...

    seeds Deformed seedlings?

Hi All, Any ideas on what's up with the two seedlings in the 1st pic below would be great, they are Indian 7 Pot 10 days old, I know it looks like something eating them but it's not, that is how they actually sprouted with deformed leaves, they are in peat pots with commercial seed raising...

    My first Jolokia, budding?

We're about to start our last month of autumn, frost won't be a problem where I am, sub-tropical climate, the coldest night in winter is probably no less than 10C and the coldest day would be no less than 15C, I move them indoors at night so they are well sheltered. I know I planted them way too...
