    Wilting too easily?

I'm using more cypress mulch this year and it's really helping out with watering issues. Keeps the soil temps down and prevents the top inch of soil from getting dried out. It's so hot and humid down here that you'd have to water 2 or 3 times per day to keep up. Now its just once in the morning...

    Pro Mix in North Carolina

Dont know how much cheaper you can get it for where it would be worth a drive of any considerable distance. I bought a bale for about $38. It's compressed, so you get more than enough. Hot P- What the recipe for your home made mix?

    FREE PLANTS CENTRAL CA

This sounds crazy. I'm in Florida and they are paranoid as anyone about anything that will infect citrus down here. But they dont stop people at the Georgia border and rummage through your cars. I can see if they want to inspect an 18 wheeler with a couple tons of potatoes, but each car coming...

Why are the leaves so pale?

Well, if the bucket is still heavy for a long time after rain, you need more drainage. Myabe add more holes or make the existing ones a bit bigger, even up to 3/4 of an inch. You also may have such soil compaction at the bottom of the bucket, that the drainage is all but cut off. I've used...

Why are the leaves so pale?

If the plants in buckets are yellowing and the others in pots are fine, then it could be an over watering issue. Are there drainage holes in the buckets? If not, you need to get some in there right away, especially if the buckets are real heavy. There's probably alot of water sitting down there...

    Blossom End Rot on peppers

Even with no other sources of calcium, Tomato Tone has 5% calcium so you should be fine. You have calcium in the soil. The problem is uptake. It's not getting through the roots. Inconsistent moisture levels is likely the problem. Although Potawie thinks it is overwatering, I tend to think it is...

    Should I start fertilizing?

Nope. If it were a liquid formula, you could leech it out over the course of several waterings. But those are slow release granular fertilizers and are meant to stay active for several months. Best bet is to clear out that soil and replace it with another.

    Blossom End Rot on peppers

Tomato-Tone is a good supplier of calcium and it is the soil. So the problem probably lies with uptake. Overfertilization and underwatering are the probable culprits. Soil Ph imbalances, excess nitrogen during fruiting and too much time between waterings will prevent calcium uptake.

    Should I start fertilizing?

It's hard to fertilize or feed plants with it in MG, since that soil is full of fertilizer that probably lasts for several months. But you're not stuck with that MG stuff if you dont want it. If your plants are only a month old, you can still transplant them. Dig around the plant and try not to...

    Windchicken's Garden 2010

Wow, awesome setup and great variety. Theyre gonna explode when you start getting some consistent rain. Those weeds and grass are gonna be tough to tame. I think you're gonna have to break down and get some borders. Maybe a pressure treated 2x8 or cedar wall around it. Otherwise, that bermuda...

Looks like you go that plant out of that clear plastic container just in time. You were asking for major root damage on that one, especially with the odd hourglass shape.

fertilizer Highly-potent fertilizer... they make this stuff?!

Most of the Fox Farms stuff is pretty normal as far as NPK is concerned. The super charged stuff is probably geared for the weed growers. I mean the stuff is called Cha-Ching, Open Sesame and Beastie Bloomz. Unless youre looking for that prized orchid bloom or you're in a competitve chili...

    shade Shade Cloth...

Greenhouse shade cloth is probably overkill. I would use patio screen mesh, which you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes. I bought a whole roll even though only needed about 4 feet, so I have a ton of it. If I had seen this thread earlier, I would have told you not to order shade cloth and sent this...

    Damaged Leaves

That badly burnt one is likely going to fall off eventually. If it got the tiniest bit worse, I'd remove it immediately. No sense for the plant to devote energy to keeping that leaf alive. Plenty of other green growth on the plant to support it. Also agree with SD- that is a damaged leaf and...
