just let it run. putting a timer/switch on your airpump will shorten its lifespan by its going on and off.

Yeah hydroton works well. If the airpump has enough output to drive another airstone and still work the airlift, put a splitter in the hose, and run another hose with a stone down into the bottom bucket to add more aireation to the nute solution.

The Aleppo/Halaby is almost impossible to find outside of Syria. SO if you want to trade, yes isolate the blooms. If you want to continue to propogate that particular species from seed, isolate the blooms. I like to trade for isolated seeds.
