I got my first aerogarden at a war veterans sale for $25. never used but it was a 2007 model so the seeds and nutes were prob not viable anymore. The second one I got for free from a craigs list offer. Got one running now with salad fixins, the other will be peppers as soon as hubbie picks out...
I soaked cotton balls with the borax/sugar mixture and placed them on a firm piece of paper then placed those on top of the soil/mulch near the stem. Just started the other day so will keep you updated.
On Exhibit A's picture ... those are hornworm eggs. Get rid of them as quick as you see them... The green ones are still embryos, if they are clear then they have hatched already so keep an eye out.
I'm from SE Fl. I don't grow many tomatoes and the ones I do have are showing they are out of season and the rest got buggered up by spider mites. I can't recommend any type but I will be watching this thread for great info and maybe I'll be able to contribute sometime.
Cool thanks guys. The bleach is occasional for the garbage cans which I made screens for the top so they don't get as many mosquitoes as the 5 gal buckets do.
Hey all, I know I've seen alot about these things but I thought I read somewhere once that using water that had these in them was bad to use on plants. I have 2 - 35 gal garbage cans and about 10 - 5gal buckets to catch rainwater and down here in South Florida we are the mosquito mecca. Is there...
Thanks Mill and sp33d. Guess ill have to start scraping it off. Hopefully its not the cause of no pods on any of my plants, figured it was the extreme heat as usual.
I'm just 2 1/2 hour southeast of you and my plants had no production at all this season. I'm so jealous. Had the usual flower/pod dropping guessing due to heat and humidity, even had small outbursts of aphids surprisingly this year. They have been down-poured on and knocked over for about 3 days...
I have 2 of them. One I got brand new for $25 bucks at a garage sale and one for free on Craigs list. I love them. The only drawback is when you have all 7 holes filled with plants and you waited to long to transplant them, getting the roots apart is a bitch. I'm wondering what I will put in...
I place mine in large containers and then cover them with lids/plastic and let them sterilize in the sun over the summer. Then when I need to use some, I mix it with manure compost and other amendments and reuse. My problem is I'm getting more soil over the seasons... I'll have to dump some into...
Thanks Chile Juju. they just lost their color and turned really brittle, maybe cobwebby looking. Not sure how to explain it. It happens all the time when I try to grow green beans. I think dash 2 has it with flea beetles but I don't really see holes in the leaves just discoloration and...
Thanks dash 2, now to look up how to get rid of them.
Since this posting I'm down to one of each bean plant and they get 50/50 on health looking. They seem to look better after a feeding and I managed to get 2 beans off one heheheh. Want to fert them again but looks like rain for next 3 days...
