    Growing Mushrooms

Awesome, thanks.  I just gave the plants a soak in worm casting enriched water, will that likely have a similar effect?

    Growing Mushrooms

Fungus gnats have haunted my grow for the last 2 seasons which suggests my soil is growing some fungus.  If you guys know how to grow shrooms I thought you might be able to suggest a way to keep my plants soil fungus free.  The tap water they get is pH 8 which I thought might be helping the fungi?

Halide light - too much light for my plants?

I got mine out of a garage where it had sat for 20 years.  I did pay 12 beers for it though. It has not been on the road yet as I put a new motor, radiator, clutch etc in it. Now it is getting sills rebuild.  That should be it.   Is anyone else seeing the burn-outs, bbq & beer chilli harvest...

Glog of small things - Now with pods

I am wondering if the largest of the hot peppers are ready to pot up.  During the bottom watering I wanted to dial the processes so I pulled one from the container and while definitely not root bound the roots are all the way to the bottom pretty conclusively.

Halide light - too much light for my plants?

Nice greenhouse.  I think I have a very mini-version of that (trade tested?).    I have a '72 HQ wagon which is in the shop right now getting ready for summer.

    Good guy, Bad guy, culprit?

This must be a frustrating problem but it is very interesting.  Have you inspected the insides of a pod?  Could you post up phones?  I wonder if some weird larve are getting in there, it seems likely they would leave an least some indication they were there, I would inspect the pods with a fine...

Thanks for the tip. I had the worm castings at my finger tips so thought I would give them the first crack.       Where is Bakersfield?  I have been to Torrance maybe 20 times and it is a warm tropical paradise, am I wrong to assume that is how CA is?       Maybe my photos are a bit deceptive...

caveman's hot pepper and spice grow

Bummer about the ghosts with helmet head. I just leave the heads on.  I have had some fight their way our after a month or more.  If it can't fight off the seed head by itself it was not meant for this world

So I checked with a guru and my worm casting soak got the ok.   Castings in the tray   Separating out the worms, pretty painless as they had largely migrated. Thanks to my girlfriend for the help, she is small but packed with awesome!  I no longer put egg shells in the worm bin but at one...

Glog of small things - Now with pods

So I am going to water the seedlings today.  I was thinking about soaking some worm castings in the water to make a weak fertilizer.  I am interested in opinions on whether this would be worth doing and if there is any risk involved.  I was thinking 1 part castings to 4 parts water so it...

    Swampys Kiwi grow.

I am doing the exact some experiment at the moment and the results are not looking good.  My plants are much smaller than yours but the white bhuts are showing some leaf curl which I suspect is from the cold.  I got up at 3am last night to measure the temp in the greenhouse and it was 1.2c above...

Glog of small things - Now with pods

The mix the plants are in is an off the shelf mix of compost and fine bark.  In the pack it came mixed with sheep pallets, dolomite lime and blood and bone.  I took a close up image of a couple of plants so that it could be seen more clearly:   The chinense in this image is showing some...

Glog of small things - Now with pods

I am in Auckland in Otahuhu. Where I am there are not frosts as we are close to the water.  The 3 white trays are just perched close to North facing windowsills inside but the house gets down to say 10c overnight, it is not well insulated. The temperature outside is much the same as inside to be...

Will this work? Feel free to laugh if it's a stupid idea lol

Pepperguru has some experience with that technique I believe.  As I recalled it was a very sucessful technique for him.  I am at the foggy edges of my memory but I think he might have hit the joint with some AACT to promote recovery.  Or he gave some to the plant to help with recovery...

    Swampys Kiwi grow.

Hmmm, those are some pretty speccy looking fertilizers.  I might need to invest.  I have yet to fertilize this year so that might help things along.

The over winter is a red Jonah.  I do actually have a yellow 7 pot too which was very productive last year.  It looks likely to survive the winter too.   The llttle greenhouse is ok but I would have misgivings about having any electrical device in it as it isn't totally water tight.

    PIC 1's...Pepper Graphic...2014

I am up to page 3 of your glog and have never seen any thing like it - I have convinced myself you are the Bruce Wayne of growing hot peppers.   "Alfred, fetch my chopsticks" "You chopsticks sir" "Not the jade chopsticks Alfred; the ones carved by the Buddhist monks after fasting, my hot pepper...

Glog of small things - Now with pods

Last year was a pretty mixed bag.  I hope to put what I learned into practice.  I have a few over winters in my corner like this chap:   Red Jonah   I also have around 100 new starts this year:   Pubes and bhuts   Scorpions, 7 Pods and Reapers   Some annuums, not very exciting at this stage...

raised-bed Using cinder blocks for raised beds question.

A couple of thoughts.  I like timber garden edging as I use a weedeater to get into the tight spaces around the edges and have found the concrete blocks absolutely eat the cable. Not sure if that would be relevant to you.   If you are looking for a cheap source of good timber try to secure some...

    First year growing peppers..

Awesome, looking great.  All on for this weekend.  I have at least 5 different types of pubes for you and a white bhut if you want it.  The pubes are doing the best of all the seedlings which further suggests my seedlings might be a bit cold generally.
