CRT's (old school tv's) work on the basis of exciting phosphors.  Essentially there are 3 phosphors; red, green and blue and you can make different colors by varying the amount each phosphor is excited i.e. all of them is white, none is black and any one alone is a primary color.  Of course...

Could you possibly point me to the source of the table?  It is quite good but the spectrum information is inaccurate.  "White" is normally made by blending tri-phosphors so spectrally should have r, g, b peaks just like T5.  There is certainly nothing stopping any phosphor blend being used in...

    The Great Kiwi Pepper Thread

I start checking the mail after a week.  Quickest for me was 10 days.  Longest was about 20 and I had one lot mysteriously not appear, my first order ever which Judy resent for free.  Since then there have been no further issues. This time I have Caramelmoruga, Yellow 7 pot original, Bhut...

Your plants look great.  Have you had most luck in ground or in pots this year? Have you abandoned your glog?  It would be great to see an a few more shots of your plants.

I found the family of the fly in original post:   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolichopodidae   Keys points are: The adults are predators, feeding on small invertebrates including Collembola, aphids, and the larvae of Oligochaeta. Species of the genus Dolichopus commonly prey on the larvae of...

I have 2 shipments inbound, fingers crossed.  In concept would anyone be keen to get a photosanitary cert for a bulk order?  If we have five people it might only add $10 each but we could order many packets as they would be virtually guaranteed to get through.  Just a thought.  Either that or we...

seeds My first 3 coty seedlings..two in a few days

The 4 cot is awesome.  Regarding 3 cots, from memory, the mother fatalli plant pepper-guru grew started as a 3 cot.  That thing must have spat out more than 1000 pods a year for something like 8 years so you might be in rarefied air.

tutorial Beginner's guide to AACT/Compost Tea

Thank you for your considered response miguelovic.  It was exactly the sort of information I was hoping for.  I will skip the Seasol as it sounds like a bit of an unknown.   I will try using oatmeal as a food source.  I am off to explore microbeorganics.com,

tutorial Beginner's guide to AACT/Compost Tea

So I am guessing my teas with worm castings and BSM only are almost exclusively bacterial teas.  I am after a good recipe for some more fungal teas.  I have a few ingredients at hand I hope to use: a large mulch pile which is literally chipped up trees.  it is quite fresh having been sitting...

Glog of small things - Now with pods

I have 10 or 15 fruit trees and always plant a comfrey at the base of each fruit tree once it is established.  I made up some comfrey tea today.  I have not made it before so will be interested in how it performs. I had to look up instructions to get a comfrey/water ratio but it seems basically...

Finish quite a few dead Psyllids which I hope means something is killing them: My girlfriends comment was how do you know he didn't die from old age after a life of munching on hot peppers and producing many offspring.

Reading up on them I found a map showing where they were present in NZ and from memory most of the north island including Hamilton had them.    It appears something is killing the Psyllids: I have more and more dead white Psyllids turning up.  There is also ghostly looking scale:   It would be...

I am not an organic zealot. Last season was mixed so this season I thought I would try all organic with no sprays.  It was looking much better than last season but now the Psyllids have appeared. Will the beneficial insects have a fighting chance against a recently introduced insect I guess is...

    pests Pest or Beneficial

I have a lot of Psyllids:( They seem to be on every plant along with their eggs.  There are quite a few dusky ladybirds so hopefully these will be doing their part.  I have been talking with Bioforce and will get some of their Orius bugs.  Other than that I want to see if it will sort itself out...

That thing is packed, awesome growing.    Your dorset naga and yellow scorpion were also loaded.  Some of my plants have boomed.  Others right next to them, not so much.  Your grow seems to have yielded consistent mega-poddage. Is there any trick in particular?

Thank you for your response.  I know the photo is not great, insect photos seem like a bit of an art form.  I am going to buy a macro lens for my camera.   Watching their flight characteristics is a great idea.        The most distinctive feature of it are that the wings are an iridescent blue...

Seem to have a few Psyllids hanging about.  Where ever they are these have appeared in good numbers so I am hoping they are on my side.  Is it a hoverfly?
