tutorial The Comprehensive Guide to Over-Wintering

Thank you for doing this, I for one will be following it. I will be plucking the last of the ripe peppers this weekend and deciding on which ones to cut back first. I saved 75% of my plants fro a light frost a couple of weeks ago and they have been inside ever since. Even on nice days I don't...

I'd be up for it just to see if I can do it. Any other rules?

greenhouse Spicy Chicken's grow room and greenhouse makeover

Thanks Spicy, that was a fantastic post/wip/view into your build/world... One question though, do you process a lot of peppers?

    lighting Grow lights

Well, I have 4 bulbs and the walls and floors are white but I was really just looking to tide them over until I could get set to overwinter them. I'm not looking to grow more vegetation or get more flower production, just ripen the few pods that are left and make sure they are healthy enough to...

    lighting Grow lights

So, after a light frost, I decided to bring my plants inside to hopefully finish off the season and get some ripe peppers. The main problem is that I don't have an area that gets a lot of light that I can put 16 potted plants in hehe. So for now they are in my shop with the heat on. My question...

    MarkT growing log 2011

They are very tastey, I pickled some up with some serranos and they had great flavour with a good amount of heat. My wife eats them right out of the jar but I put them on pizzas.

    pests name that bug

I would say it is a long horn beetle of some sort. They mostly stick to trees so i doubt you have anything to worry about.

    Getting there

Ok, so now the after shots. The serrano weathered the frost the best and I don't think it has any damage at all. The poor cayenne on the other hand... Still not sure what some of them are but I can at least figure out which are not the choco habs hehe. So that leaves the ripening ones either...

    indoor Indoor Grow

They should come as an egg pack and you just put them in your greenhouse (or hot room or whatever) and let nature take its course. I found out our local seed place has lady bugs and praying mantis eggs!! might get some next season depending on how bad the bad bugs are.

    Guru's 1/8 Acre Fabriculture - 5 yr mothers

Pepper guru, I am patiently (or not so much) awaiting your tutorial as I will be needing it very shortly. Almost lost my peppers to a light frost last week but I think they will survive a little bit longer. Managed to get the ones I wanted into pots but they arent looking the best right now.

    Getting there

Well after an eventful month, here is a quick update on my "progress". I moved and had to leave my plants behind until I could get situated in my new house (much bigger grow area), Im still not completely moved in but I have the basics hehe. I now live about 20 miles from my old house which...

    Question regarding tonight's frost advisory

Hopefully mine are that tough. Last night was down to 40 and tonight will be down to 35. I would love to pot them but I moved and no longer live in the area... I am going this weekend to pot them, I just hope they last til then as there were a couple of supers ripening and I don't want to lose...

seeds i started seeds to check germination

At the risk of everyone telling me I was just lucky and it would normally not happen, I start my seeds in soil or jiffy pellets in a mini seed greenhouse. No germinating or heat mat or anything like that, I put them in a south facing window and leave them alone (yes, it's difficult to do that)...

    Bhut pods turning purple

both my hungarians and my jalpenos did the same thing, the hungarians then ripened up to their normal colour with no hint of discolouration. Still waiting for the jalapenos hehe.

overwintering Winter coming to WI - will the little guys make it?

I know exactly what you are going through, no warnings yet but there are only a couple more weeks left before I have to make a choice. Mine are in ground so I can't take them in at night, my hots have barely put out any pods and they are not showing any ripeness at all. I am going to wait...

pests Anyone use "trap crops" or companion plants for pest control?

I find it funny that the racoons are trying to get into my garbage and leaving my beans and peppers alone. On the other hand, the slugs were terrible this year and almost destroyed the leaves on my beans. I guess they like beans better because I only found a couple on my peppers. I do have a...

    Peppers & pods 2011

I may try that next season. I have one question though, how often, if ever, do you get different flowers on the same plant? ie: a couple of flowers have 5 petals and some others have 6 or 7. The plants themselves are not what I thought they were and once I get some ripe pods I will post pics and...

    Getting there

Thai chili? Cayenne? ??? And last but not least, after the wind blew a rug on my plants and broke a rather large piece off one, I looked up some clipping info and decided what the heck. I trimmed the branch back, snipped off half the last leaf and popped it in some water until I could...

    Getting there

Well, most of the plants seem to be growing nicely, I am getting pods on almost all plants now and they have grown a couple of inches. I still have about a month of growing left before I have to look at overwintering. Hopefully I get some ripe ones by then. The hungarians are coming along and...
