Is this a hungarian hot wax?

The colour and shape look right but the plant and leaves don't. I have 3 hungarians and most of the peppers grow upright or sideways instead of downwards. They should have some heat to them as i think they are just a bit lower on the scale than serranos but they won't be increadibly hot...

    Getting there

WEll, i hate to say it but I think I am sacrificing my beans for my peppers. I went out tonight and saw slugs on my pepper leaves and stated plucking them off, decided to check my beans and they were COVERED in slugs..... I figured maybe I should just give them an easy meal so they would leave...

seeds Cayenne peppers germinated. quick and important question

It should be ok to keep them outside, just watch them and take them inside if they start to wilt or curl. For the first little while they are very susceptible to sunlight and may not adapt to the heat right away. Leaving them out overnight should be fine.

Any idea what they are? hehe. Are you sure that was me? I didn't flush my plants.

    Getting there

Took some pics to show the update and ask a question or two. First pic is not hot peppers however its the third batch of beans I've taken out of my little garden. There is a pepper in the bowl, it is the spotted ?jalapeno? I had a taste of it and it tastes very much like a green pepper, so I...

    Important Questions

Peppers like heat and light but not direct desert heat and light. The will grow because of the soil temp and humidity and then once the sun was on the new shoots for 12 hours at 40+ c, they would wilt and burn from the UV rays. If you already have them outside, put something over the bed so it...

    Getting there

Well, the weather has done some gardening for me. What I thought was going to be just a rainstorm, had some wind associated with it. It blew a rug off the deck right onto my smaller plants. I dont know how long it was there but it had broken a couple of branches (not that there were many) and...

    Bait and switch

Ok I get it. I guess i was confused as others have said that they had different peppers grow than expected because of cross pollination, maybe they meant from last year and were growing from seed?

    powder-flake Best drying/powdering varieties?

You guys are making me crazy. I can't wait til I get ripe peppers and can use my wifes dehydrator (that used to make jerky... then stopped). Do you slice them up first or dry them whole? Are you mixing the pepper powder or leaving it pure? How long do you usually dry them for? sean

    Pepper Identification???

Except for the tails, they look like the hungarians I have now. The leaves look the same as well. Could be a different variety.

My peppers refused to set fruit until I pulled out the beans

I have 3 different species of beans on one end of my garden and a bunch of peppers on the other end. My garden is only about 16 feet long. Im only having the normal issues with growing peppers hehe. Although now that you mention it, I have one plant right beside the beans and it is bare of...

    Getting there

My wife said the same thing so the spotted Jal may get the bite later this week, I want to see if it gets any colour first. They are on the big side. That side of the house is south facing so they get sun pretty much all day, is that too much? I used a hardware store plastic greenhouse to...

The jalapenos are next along with the maybe jalapenos Another unknown Finally the best producers so far the serrano. Some of these are 3" long and the plant has double in size from last time. None of the plants are very tall but at least they are getting flowers and pods. If...

    Getting there

Well, if you read my intro post before the server crash, you know the fun I've been having with my peppers. It's been a couple of weeks so I thought I would put up some pics of the progress so far. They are definitely bigger and I will probably try and overwinter a couple but I still have about...

    seeds seed organization

What about pill boxes? The big ones for multiple weeks? You can label them yourself and can put a fair amount of seeds in each compartment. Bead storage containers are pretty much the same thing with bigger compartments. Just don't shake them :-)

    poor peppers.

Do you collect rain water? Even just leaving a large watering can outside and using that to water should be good. How often do you water? For the record for planting, I used normal black earth from Kents and mixed it with half a bag of sheep manure. I planted outside and mixed the whole thing...

    Bait and switch

Can you explain that part? i thought pollination of existing flowers with other plants, either through nature (wind, insects) or by hand, would cause a cross breed. I'm not doubting you, I just don't know about it.
