I grew a few huge basil plants last year amidst my peppers and they seemed to take the brunt of bad guys. Might have just been luck as I never tried targeting bugs this way. It just worked out good for me.

I have some tabascos mixed in with about 40 odd plants from Bells to Morugas and to be honest, they taste the worst of any I have. Really bad and nothing like that infamous sauce... I think the vinegar and aging has more to do with the taste of the sauce. Just my opinion but I'd grow something...

While I'm sure it could be a fungus it just looks like salts and left over solids after evaporation from your hydro to me.
