    Slowly building heat

Hahaha, I was thinking something totally different when I saw "slowly building heat" I was thinking of how my other half can now eat habaneros and not even know it when she claims black pepper is too hot for her.

    CATS - AARRRGHHHH

Just cover the ground with wire mesh, most digging things don't like to dig metal. You can lose the wire once they're established.

    seeds topping seedlings

Yeah, I don't notice any advantage with topping peppers. I only remove some top coverage (mainly leaves) on my mature plants to get more light into the centre of the plant, which I find makes the plants grow like mad.

soil Green algae on soil surface

Old fashioned sun should take care of it, letting the surface dry out, that is, if you're in an area that gets useful sun.

artwork Australian Resources for starting a food business?

You should be able to find a fair bit of info from the health department of your state. Here in QLD, Queensland Health has a lot on their website. Edit: (In QLD) it looks like you don't need any licences related to food if you're just doing powders, raw spices etc. You should only need an ABN...

Why all the disclaimers and waivers?

Death - Bit sus tho. I can't really find any legislation which might apply to the sale of superhots for human consumption (Australia anyway). As far as I can tell, as long as it's disclosed that it's "spicy", then you should be OK in court (besides legal costs).

pests Bugs, Birds, Mammals and More Bugs

Man that sucks, at least mine aren't that bad yet. Had pretty good success using pyrethrum, and moving the plants well away from any vegetation until they recovered.

pests Bugs, Birds, Mammals and More Bugs

We have lots of real snakes and owls, so I don't think that's scaring them away (does a good job on the human visitors tho). Most are only pythons so they're not too bad. Diatomite hey, might have to give it a go. I might even have to buy some predators for the bugs but they're expensive. I'll...

HAHA, classic. About as useful too :P http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Brush-turkey Whilst they have the same conservation status as humans, they are protected. Something about them being heritage listed.

pests Bugs, Birds, Mammals and More Bugs

Now that the rains have come and it's warming up in Queensland, I was wondering what everyone is doing to keep pests away. I am really struggling to keep the aphids, thrips, spider mites, birds, possums, bush turkeys and who knows what else, away from my plants. I'm going through pyrethrum...

I got your cutting board right here!!

I have one of these amazing tassie oak end-grain butcher blocks. The natural antibacterial properties of wood means I don't need multiple, knife dulling plastic boards. The end-grain means it's kind on my knives.
