Why not cross a variety again?

There was another thread describing the hottest small pepper and Datil posted about a Naga x Tobasco and that cross was very nice.  I made the comment that last season I grew a Tobasco x Bhut but I didnt like it because it was too mushy, it really needed another round of bhut dna to get rid of...

chinense MOA Scotch Bonnet vs Aleppo

I like to make my Aleppo into powder, I also grill and stuff them.  As far as MOA Scotch I am pretty much a chinense guy so I will always vote that way, I'll eat Annuum peppers and such but nothing satiates my palette like a chinense pepper.

    Let's talk about flavor

I would add.....   Orange Ghost Pepper 7 Pot Orange   Pimento L Sweet Pepper   Its the best tasting sweet pepper in my opinion.  They can get really dense and meaty also, really thick walled.  Love them!

chinense Lake Valley Seed Company Former Scotch Bonnet Observations

I grew the Jamaican Red this year, I bought the same seed pack from Lakevalley.  Sorry to say mine looking nothing like the picture, but I think they were a type of Scotch Bonnet so I was ok with them.  They had a habanero red type shape but more Bonnet like, and milder flavor.  I probably wont...

    About the Goat's Weed pepper

There are many here at THP who have grown true Goats Weed. I find them to be a two season plant to get any real production.  The first season I grew the plant produced a couple dozen peppers.  I overwintered plant and the second season the plant nearly doubled in size and I had gads of peppers...

    hot-sauce Marie Sharp's?

Its a good thing cause that sauce is horrible.  I was really surprised when I tried it, I just dumped the bottle out in sink.    I have a local Thai Grocery that stocks a full line of Carribean Hot Sauces, They get in stuff that I dont even see at big retailers like Jungle Jims and Pepper...

    hot-sauce Marie Sharp's?

The only Marie Sharps sauce I dont like is their Sweet Chili sauce.  I think its a take on the typical Asian sweet chili sauce but its way inferior.  May Ploy Sweet Chili sauce is ten times better.    good luck on your choices.

    Orange ghost peppers?

Yes, there are Red, Yellow, Chocolate, Olive, Mustard, Orange, Peach, etc.  The orange are kinda smoothish but have nice bhut heat.  I cant say for sure that the orange is a color mutation or just selective breeding with another pepper to get that color.    However, I am a fan of the orange...

    preservation Drying frozen peppers

If you have an Aldi supermarket or other similar type market near you they usually have low budget "dehydrators" or around $20  I have owned two and they work just fine.  I do have an oven that will drop down to 150F but my wife would go ballistic if I used it for peppers.  lol   This year, I...

    Trinidad Perfume

I grew 4 plants of the Perfume this summer, I just put two pounds of them in my freezer, I use them to augment my hot sauces and jellies.  My Habanero Jelly is always too hot so they say, so I put 6 of these Trinidad perfume in with 2-3 Habanero's and I get a great flavor and manageable heat for...

    heat The hottest small pepper?

I grew a Tobasco x bhut pepper last year, it was an F3.  The peppers were still soft and mushy like Tobasco and didnt have much heat, I think it could have stood another recross to infuse more Bhut dna.    The cross you have pictured looks dandy though, much better than what I grew,    cheers

food What was the last spicy meal you cooked?

I made chili last night with one 7 Pot Brown chili added, chili had plenty of heat and was great.  I topped it with a dab of sour cream and some sharp chedder cheese, I used one lb of lean ground beef and one lb of lean ground pork in the chili and a normal size can of lite red kidney beans, I...

    chinense Habaneros at supermarket

The choc habs have a pretty intense heat compared to the orange hab.  If I were to describe the taste I would say a strong green bell pepper type taste. Thats all I got.

Is it possible these are not bhut jolokia?

I am thinking the same thing, I had some unintended crosses this year and this was one of them, a hab crossed with ghost!  I didnt save any seeds and I am just dehydrating them all into powder myself.    I kinda like them though, I usually mix some bhuts in with my Habanero powder anyhow so I...

    Buds not growing

It could be as simple as the flowers arent getting pollinated?  Do you have a fan in your growtent?  If not do you shake your plants to stimulate pollination?      That would just be my thoughts as your setup seems ok to me, I am sure others will chime in.  Thats all I got       Regards

chinense Scotch bonnet shape evidence enough?

I have never heard of Open Fields, sorry.  My wife grew up on the western border of Ohio and knows Indiana quite well.  We were just in Indiana a week ago fr the Notre Dame home opener against Nevada.  Had an awesome time and spent the night in Shipshewana eating some Amish food and such.   ...

chinense Scotch bonnet shape evidence enough?

Thanks for link and yes I realize I was very fortunate!  I have traded several times trying to get the MOA's but when I grew them out it was not an MOA or it was crossed.  Who knew I would find the pepper I wanted by mistake mixed in with Orange habs at a Supermarket!  lol
