    preservation Drying peppers

I dry my cayennes in ristra style in the air conditioned house. I typically lose maybe less than 1% to a form of mold. But the Aji Lemon drops didn't do as well. I ended up placing them in the oven at 150 to 200 degrees. One batch worked quite nicely, the other I over did it just a little. Just...

    First of the year ...Pix

Bummer. My grandparents "migrate" to Texas for the winter. They said those damn mocking birds will drive you nuts at four in the morning as they mock every other bird in the area. I love nature and I stick to the laws.....but when it comes to my garden....look out!!

    First of the year ...Pix

Very nice. Ahh the Scotch Bonnet habanero thing.......yeah. I'm thinking that something isn't quite right. They sure look like orange habs to me!! And dude you've got snakes!!!!! Is that like the Texan version of a scare crow or what? Man, your pepper plants look awesome. Enjoy!!

    Hi guys

Hmmmm....Let me see. Where shall I start. Oh yes, First try getting a job. I hear that's a great way to get money. Besides it builds character. Second you have no idea what you are getting yourself into. I don't know what restaurants are in your area, but I would recommend visiting a Buffalo...

    Purira-To Die For

Sounds good. Does it have a medium to thick flesh? I like to grill or saute alot of my more mildly hot peppers. In the past I have used Hot Hungarian Wax, Hot Cherry, Jalapenos, etc. But I am looking for something a little hotter. But not scorching because I like to (for example) fill half of my...

    Pumpkin Hot Pepper

Wow that is a crazy looking plant. Do we really know what the classification is? Reimers states Baccatum. I wonder if it is by itself. I just checked "The Chile Pepper Encyclopedia" and it doesn't make any mention of a hot pumpkin any where. Must be a recent cross or find? Pardon me, but I must...

    Cold Sweat Ice Cream

I used dried Aji Lemon Drops.......and like I mentioned, it sort of dumped out of the container. So some bites where a little crunchy.

    Mystery hab?

I won't put any bets on them being sterile or lacking heat. I have a "super chile" (it was a quick replacement for a plant that I lost this spring) that is doing the same thing. The first few pods were small and lacked the plecental tissue and seeds. However the larger pods seem to be fine...

    crop rotation

LOL.....I did forget to mention that at $3.00 - $4.00 per 40 Lb bag of mushroom compost, it is probably not a viable solution for a large garden!! But for Mr. smalltime like myself (3' x 35') it is a little more manageable. But still costly.

    Hornworms

I lost an entire sweet pepper plant last year. That little sucker ate all the leaves and half of a pepper in less than 24 hours!! I have used Sevin every few weeks ever since. So far I haven't had any problems, but it's still early. I don't like spraying my veges, but I don't have much of a choice.

    crop rotation

I have the same concern. I'm on year number three with limited rotation possibilities. I do till in mushroom compost every spring to help replenish the soil. Don't know if it helps the lack of rotation issue or not. I also test the soil and add fertilizer if needed. Any advice would be greatly...

    Cold Sweat Ice Cream

ok...Aji Lemon Drop Ice Cream. First bite, not bad. Second bite, little crunchy. Third bite, kinda tickles the throat. fourth bite......cough.....cough. Mental note: Buy a container with little holes in the top for "shaking" not dumping. This needs a little work. The heat never hits the tongue...

    chinense Capsicum Chinense?

No, I'm just sure that it isn't a Serrano.......and if it is....then I owe you an apology. But until then, I think that your crazy. Still thinking Serrano?
