I am all for organic and have only grown that way for the last few years but this year things changed! The fungus gnats came and caused havoc and i nailed them. The aphids came and caused havoc but i got rid of them...still not sure how much good the ladybirds and parasitic wasps i bought did...
Strange how the seed parcels work. I got a nasty letter yesterday from MAF due to my seed parcel from Judy. I think she put all the seeds in one envelope instead of spreading it over a couple of envelopes like i had asked,so it was noticed and searched. Lost USD$40 with that parcel....but today...
I can echo sentencedtoburn's statement...i get a shiver when i see evidence of those evil little bastards! Found 2 plants last night with evidence again so i sprayed the little beasts with Success Ultra. You let them go for a day or two and it is an infestation. Once your plants go yellow they...
Yeah nzchilli is probably correct. I know that the nymph stage looks like and the eggs. I don't spend time trying to exam the adults ....they get sticky trapped!
Got plenty of them in my greenhouse as well. Don't seem to be anything other than a nuisance. The parasitic wasps we have here are smaller. This seems to be a fly.
I have a couple of Jay's Red Ghost's ripening now...lovely plant and the most wicked looking pod's out there! I am trying the peach version again as well but i think they are a great option. Will let you know about the heat in a couple of weeks.
I might trust them to keep aphids under control but you are a brave man to rely on them to keep psyllids under control. The psyllids target the whole tomato family equally from i have seen. They nailed my tomatoes at the same time as my chilli's. I have seen nothing like them for destruction...
Not that i could find. The nymph stage looks like scale insects and covers itself with a wax layer to protect it from predators. The adult stage is a fly which you can spray for and use sticky traps. The eggs are on stalks on the edge of the leave but are so small you can hardly see them. Even...
In my experience very few of the normal sellers supply phytosanitary certificates and for those that would, they charge something like US$50 per shipment for a cert, which is pretty steep and often more than the actual cost of the seeds themselves. And then who is to say that MAF will be happy...
Spoke to Sentencedtoburn and he is also in with Chinense.
Good news for me...i received an envelope with seeds including my Ice Scream Scorpion and a so called genuine Chocolate Reaper...time will tell!
