Kiwi Grow Off - Heaviest weight of pods off a single plant

Nice!   I will check with Sentencedtoburn today ( he is my neighbour ), but i think he will go with Reapers as well.

Kiwi Grow Off - Heaviest weight of pods off a single plant

I am in as well guys.   I suggested Pube because they handle winter growing better, but i prefer Chinense for flavour generally and have a couple of plants that are going to be monsters by the end of this season. At the end of the day it does not really matter as long as we are all growing the...

    seeds Separating tiny seedlings...Shock?...photo

I second nzchili's comment on removing the seedlings from the pellets by soaking and then washing under a tap. I have also had issues in the past with the roots not penetrating the Jiffy pellet mesh once transplanting into soil. As mentioned, us Kiwi growers are now struggling to get seeds into...

    Hydrogen Peroxide - Really?

I have used both Hydrogen Peroxide and Camomile tea before with good success. Camomile is what is use regularly now with an over night soak for the seeds.

    The Great Kiwi Pepper Thread

While i love the Chinense plants, in my experience the Pubescence grow insanely large and tolerate the cold way better for us Kiwi growers. Might be an advantage to growing for a longer season. I have a Canario that is currently taking over my vege garden since i planted it out a month ago. They...

Thanks Chris. I am sorted for now and have plenty of seeds currently. Now that i have a greenhouse i will start growing all year round and keeping a careful eye on the nasties that are now showing themselves and destroying my plants!

Ta Trippa....i was wondering how the hell we would get new seeds in for the new season. I still have plenty here, but am always on the lookout for new varieties and with the new restrictions the future looked pretty gloomy!

    The Great Kiwi Pepper Thread

My problem was that i only really recognised them way too late....so now i nail the eggs when i see them. Once the bacteria from their mouths gets into the plants and your psyllid yellow starts you can destroy your plants as they are toast! I like the lighter idea though.....! Going to...

Eggs of some sort, but who's?

Psyllid eggs are also on stalks on the edge of the leaves, but are much smaller than the lacewing eggs and the stalks are not as long.

Big learning curve this year...i thought i had seen it all after a few years of growing! This year was my biggest grow and the most experimentation with hydroponics, aeroponics and different grow mediums. All went well until spring hit....then the aphids went mad....eventually sorted them out...

White loose grains on top of leaves

The Psyllid can move around. Generally you should see yellowish eggs or nymphs. The adults fly around.   http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/insect/05540.html     "While feeding, psyllid nymphs excrete small, waxy beads of "psyllid sugar," which resembles granulated sugar."

White loose grains on top of leaves

Those grains look very much like what i see when i have scale/psyllid issues. Look under the leaf above where you see the grains. You will probably noticed the critters responsible, i think this is what they excrete. If left long enough you will end up with spots on the leaves that become holes.

    The Great Kiwi Pepper Thread

The space chillies are seeds sent into space by China back in the 80's to monitor disease resistance and growth rate changes from the effects of zero gravity and ozone. They seem to grow bigger and faster than normal. Got a few different Chinese chillies to grow and they seem to perform as...

Hey Chris...lucky score on the seeds! My last parcel was from Judy with my MOA Scotch Bonnets in it amongst others and was shipped one day after the law changes so they destroyed it....i wonder how yours got by?
