    Downriver 2022 - Pepper Time

Great haul DR! Good to see somebody growing the seeds I put in the train last year and those pods look awesome. Did you get good germination? I'm currently growing one plant from the same set of seeds in hydro.

Let's talk a little about the big outdoor hydro plants I'm growing.... I did this only because I had the two Brute bins, extra MasterBlend and the space to grow a couple massive plants. The intention from the beginning was to have a true "set-it-and-forget-it" Kratky system that I was not going...

Thanks CD! Yeah every time I'm by the peppers I give them a good shake to encourage pollination. What I saw on Jim Duffy's YouTube channel is that he uses mosquito netting, which allows him to group together several plants in order to isolate them. That would definitely make this less of a...

Quick pic of the outdoor plants: The foliage looks great, even if they are smaller than last year's plants at this time. They seem to like their new location by the fence where they get some shade at various times during the day, but still have access to plenty of sunlight. The only thing...

So far things are going according to plan indoors. I started using 1 gal DWC to try out new varieties and experiment on Chinenses, and I think that's the ideal size. They hold a decent amount of water so the nutrients last a few days before refilling and the plants don't get obnoxiously big (so...

Totally agree CD... It has definitely been a good plant and it didn't even complain about the bad weather we had in June, nor the heatwave last week. I love it when they just do their thing and there's no drama. I think we're going to be set with Jalapenos for a while.

    HeatMiser's 2022 Glog

It's been a while since I posted. Between being really busy and having a challenging season here in the PNW without much pepper news, there hasn't been much to post. First, the outdoor peppers - these have been moved to a more sheltered location against the fence since last week we had a heat...

    PaulG 2022

Hey @PaulG, I'm in the same boat. I thought I had royally screwed up this year's grow, but looking at the posts in the PNW grow it seems it's just not a good year for peppers overall. Between messing up the plant-out, getting hit by the suckiest June, and now a heatwave, my plants are nowhere...

    Sulsa's 2022 grow log

Nice grow! With regards to the Cayenne, my money would be more on just variation within that line vs accidental wind pollination through mesh bags. Of course nothing is 100%, but the pollen must have made its way from a nearby plant, get through the mesh bag (which is still a physical barrier)...

seeds Extremely old (80 years?) seed germination question

What do you mean? There's a full study in the thread that was attached which goes in extensive detail on the procedure + results. The numbers are there.

seeds Extremely old (80 years?) seed germination question

Would be interesting to see the progress on this one. I've been able to germinate 10-year old seeds using h2o2, and the science to back this up is in this great post by @CaneDog https://thehotpepper.com/threads/hydrogen-peroxide-h2o2-and-seed-germination.71125/ I've also been able to...

Next to My Chair - Bowls of Bonnets

Just dropping this here since we were discussing how to support plants in 5 gal kratkys a couple of years ago: This seems like an elegant solution. I wonder if it's any good in practice....

Quick update - Interestingly enough, all 3 Carolina Reaper seeds I sowed last week have sprouted. I haven't gotten a hook from any of the other varieties which were planted a week earlier. I usually keep one seedling and cull the rest from the rockwool cube. However, this time I wanted to see...

    PaulG 2022

Your plants look awesome Paul, especially considering the super wet weather we've been having this year. May got twice the average rainfall in my neck of the woods, and we already broke the average for June barely a week into it.... How long do you harden off your plants for?

OK, it's done Zapotec Jalapeno: Lemon Drop: There are some things that I still have to figure out, like better support. @Uncle Eckley - I might borrow the cage/bungee approach. Also, I don't plan to refill the bins, but I might depending on how far into the season we are when they start...

    HeatMiser's 2022 Glog

Nice! I have two 32g Brute bins that I ended up not using anymore after the move. So I cleaned them up real good and now they will serve as Kratky barrels in hopes of getting some of that same production you talk about. I'm really thrilled about a big ass plant producing hundreds of pods, and I...

Yeah, I really hope we turn the corner soon, fishing and bbq-ing have also been affected by the weather, and I don't appreciate that.... Yup, those are 5g strainers for the most part. Last year I used the small organza bags and didn't like them because only a few of the flowers I picked...

Well, the weather has been a little unpredictable in my neck of the woods. It's been raining a lot, and we get some breaks in the weather every now and then, but overall, it has been super wet. The plants are resenting it and some of them don't seem to be enjoying being outside. Here's how...
