    ChilliNZ's as-close-to-nature-as-I-can-get-it GLOG!

I've got a beach house too but unfortunately, the hot water cupboard isn't contained but I guess the fact we've only it since the 60s is pretty cool :D Anyway, Yellow 7 Pot 2/3 overnight! That's 21/10/12.

Let's average out those germination times!

I was offering to do it.

Let's average out those germination times!

Why not? The hydro boys can have their own but for anyone growing straight into soil, potting mix, peat or whatever - post your germination times for any successful seeds and their name. Then we can put it into an Excel sheet and post the averages per variety - not the most accurate but gives...

    ChilliNZ's as-close-to-nature-as-I-can-get-it GLOG!

Hi. Okay, maybe not that close. I'm using good quality potting mix from the plant shop for everything. I first started off using two hot water cupboards - I don't know if you have them in the US but it is just a hot water cylinder for your house and makes the cupboard within which they reside...

    Order these.. in heat :D

Thanks mate. What is the most pronounced pepper for you then? So far I've only had regular red scorps, Jonahs and apparently a Gambian habanero! Might have to create a growing thread for the particular varieties too!

My douglahs, naga morich, yellow 7 pot, orange scorp, brain strain and bonda ma jacques are from Neil of Hippy Seed fame haha And then the rest are from New Zealand growers that ASSURE me they have been grown in isolation, not cross pollinated...

Why do we need to harden off - really?

Sup mate. I live in Mairangi Bay on the North Shore :D Yep, shore boy - sure thing haha Only 61% humidity today - what's going on? :S Anyway, thanks for the tip.. I am having to harden off my little fatali seedling to light as he started in the cupboard.

Why do we need to harden off - really?

If I start them inside on a heating pad in the sun - do I just need to harden them off with temperature and wind etc? Not light exposure?

Why do we need to harden off - really?

This hardening off thing is doing my head in a little, to be honest. On the island of Trinidad, central Africa or Nagaland/Assam - the chillis are going to germinate (In conditions that we strive to provide them with at home using a heating pad, spray bottles etc) and then they sprout. In the...

seeds Did I steam my seedlings?

This is the set-up and through that glass from let's sayyy.. 9-2/3 it's blasted with sun. So I figure I could just take the top of during those hours? Gets WARM, though.

seeds Did I steam my seedlings?

Basically, with the cover on there is a LOT of condensation on the inside. Should this be happening?

seeds Did I steam my seedlings?

Unfortunately, I think I used the pad wrong. I've got a 40 cell tray with a plastic top with holes in it. It gets intense sun through some glass until about 4pm and I've had it going 2 days and have basically had the plastic top on it the whole time. The Trinidad Moruga Yellow and Fatali I...

seeds How long do they REALLY take to germinate? Here's how long

Okay. I put them in egg cartons almost three weeks ago and into a hot water cupboard - it's definitely not as warm as I would like but.. I've had a couple of Trinidad Moruga Yellows come up. One I think I steamed too much with my heating pad but that's a different story. A Jonah is just showing...

greenhouse Greenhouse material? Is this sweet?

Okay so enough light will get through and my plants won't suffer? Yeah, good buy though huh! http://www.trademe.co.nz/home-living/outdoor-garden-conservatory/greenhouses/auction-518379760.htm Would this be better as it is white? Hopefully that'll mean temps 30-35 instead of the 25s we get in...

greenhouse Greenhouse material? Is this sweet?

Hi fellas http://www.trademe.co.nz/home-living/outdoor-garden-conservatory/greenhouses/auction-517982652.htm I'm thinking about picking this up as a cheap solution to getting some really warm temperatures here. Good price, good size but the problem [maybe] is that the plastic might be a bit...

seeds How long do they REALLY take to germinate?

Well, I'm using a potting mix that I've grown everything in for a couple of years and so it works. They've only been in the hot water cupboard for 5 days :P Or is it 4? Tomatoes are already popping through but my poor chillis :(

seeds How long do they REALLY take to germinate?

Hi guys I know they can take up to 3 or 4 weeks but really - how long are Naga morich, 7 pots Chocs, yellows, jonahs, Scorp morougas and Caribbean varieties going to take to germinate in a nice, 80oF/25oC quality compost in a hot water cupboard? Obviously, I'm impatient. Cheers! :D
