seeds Question for the experts.Heat and seeds?

I'm voting for cooked, maybe I'm wrong. Hopefully you didn't used up all of your seeds. Seed mats will raise the ambient temperature 10-20 degrees!

    vendor Ordering Pepper Seeds

I love Seed Savers Exchange http://www.seedsavers.org/ . A fine organization. Man, they have one heck of a catalog. They're a little thin on peppers, but they carry Fatalli and the much loved Fish peppers. CHEAP!!!

indoor Easy indoor outdoor DIY flood and drain hydro

I do not have a spigot on the trashcan. I guess you could, but all you have to do is hook a hose to the pump, turn it on, and drain it out if needed. Leaks will cost you a lot of money. I never change out my reservoir. I prefer to add water first and then amend the nutrients as needed I used...

soil Help me build my container soil

Like Millworkman Mushroom compost was a strike out as well. I have nurseries and home stores all around me and i still use the same old cheap mix. I use 50% cheap bagged top soil, 25% bagged cow manure, and 25% pine fines (natures helper). I sift the mix through a 3/8" piece of fence to get the...

indoor Easy indoor outdoor DIY flood and drain hydro

Next comes the ebb/flow fittings. These are the same old fittings you can buy on Ebay or Amazon. I believe they're General Hydroponics, but anything will work. you'll have to use a hole saw to cut through the plywood first. My fittings needed a 1 1/8" hole. Then you lay the liner over the hole...

    aeroponics/root space?

JustinNC, If you're looking for high quality nutes at a very low price checkout a company called hydrogardens in Colorado. I've used their Tomato formula for 6 or 7 mots and their hobby formula (comparable to GH Maxi Grow) for 4 months. They sell to commercial hydroponic greenhouses and you can...

    aeroponics/root space?

One thing to keep in mind is there's no bad way to do a hydro system. I've haven't seen any evidence of any system being superior to another. They all work on the same principle. Keep it simple! I personally prefer flood and drain systems, be cause there's more room for mishaps, easier setup...

    cloning DIY EZ Clone Bucket

Nice work. Don't be fooled by that fancy rooting gel that hydro stores sell. Home Depot and Lowes sells rooting hormone a small fraction of the price. Also coir, rapid rooters, and peat pellets work great for cloning

    aeroponics/root space?

Um, yes! I've been growing and experimenting with hydro veggies for 15+ years, so my comments come from experience and not from the internet. Roots have only 2 functions on a plant. First and foremost they feed the plant and the other function is anchoring. Soil roots are constantly...

    5 gallon bucket question....

I only use white NSF buckets. I'm in the surplus/salvage business and I've seen way too much sketchy plastic crap being recycled. Plastic really leeches out some scary chemicals when exposed to water and heat

    aeroponics/root space?

The roots in a hydro system will be tiny compared to a plant grown in soil. A full grown Jalapeno will have a root system about the size of a grapefruit

    Playing music for your plants.........

That was actually confirmed on Mythbusters. Plants didn't grow any better, but they definitely learned to get their hustle on

seeds soil temperature for starting seed?

Seed mats are great depending on the ambient temps in the room. My friend kept complaining about low germination rate this winter, so I went to investigate. I brought my thermometer and his soil temperature on 3, 72 cell trays ranged from 101-105 degrees. He was cooking seeds.

water Rain water in hydro systems?

Rainwater is great if you're getting a steady supply of it. I use sulfuric acid as a PH down. I mix 1 cup to a gallon of water and it will last for years. It takes a tiny splash to drop 40 gallons from 8-6
