SeanW is back...and the hydro plants are all in!

My veggies are limited at the moment due to the critters, I got mauled last year and I have even less protection up this year. The rabbits came through and ate the lettuce, carrots, broccoli, just about everything but the peppers and tomatoes. Once I get the greenhouse up, and fencing around the...

Most of my stuff is in the dirt! I need to get some beans out, and the DWC stuff is still waiting for me to get around to it, but otherwise we're growin'.   Pulled out some compost and sifted the chunks out, mixed in the nutes I've been using elsewhere, along with some perlite, and planted in...

    Stickman's 2014 Glog- That's all folks!

I have lawn sprinklers, and they seem to catch the garden pretty well. If I install the hookup near the sprinkler feed, I probably could have the same guys blow out my sprinklers and that pipe. We'll see, I guess

I've thought about the drip lines, but I'd have to run the hoses across my yard and I KNOW that I'd forget when I went to mow...   I supposed I could dig a trench and run some pipe through to put a faucet out by the gardens. I'll add that to the list ;)

Got some babies! Looks like just 2, plus a helmet head that'll probably get pinched off.    I also hit a Home Depot yesterday in search of some nasty chemicals to handle my Creeping Charlie problem. In the process, I ended up with another pile of plants. On the nightshade front, I've added...

Flowers are blooming, it's all good :)   So, got some soilless pots set up.   First, I had to soak the coco   But...that ain't gonna fit.     Much better. This stuff is impressive. I hit it on the wide side with a splitting axe, and the damn thing bounced. I had to chip away at the edges...

I probably should get a pH meter, and maybe a PPM meter. Peppers don't mind acid (to a point), so it shouldn't be a big deal, and the stuff in the ground will get the same amount of acid. I'll just have to watch the water level, I guess. It'll need to be changed periodically, anyway.

Had to go to Lowes yesterday for some other stuff, so I grabbed 4 buckets and some plants. Aside from some nons (a couple of different basils and a few strawberries), I got a "mucho nacho" jalapeno, serrano, tabasco, sandia hot pepper, gypsy sweet pepper, barker's hot pepper and a pimiento...

Yep, I'm probably just going to be removing the roof and upper half of the walls, but it still should be plenty. It's probably not going to happen until later this summer, my father is coming up to help me with some stuff and that's one of the goals. I should have it for the end of the season...

Hey Rick, I started germinating a few of the Urfa Biber seeds I got off of you last night - between the DWC and the shed I'm converting into a greenhouse, I should have plenty of time to get some pods going. If not, I made sure I had plenty for next year. I was really tempted to get some of the...

I MAY have just blacked out while poking around online. When I came to, I had ordered stuff to build a small DWC rig. I don't know how it happened. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.   So, I have a couple netpots, an air pump and some hydroton on the way. I'll snag some cheap buckets and...

I think we're looking clear of frost, but it still might be sketchy. My plan is to pick up some peppers from the local shops this week or so, and take my time getting them in the dirt so that I have a bit more of a buffer in case the weather turns again.    I also need to start getting my nons in...

Got a bit of frost last night, so I guess we're not out in the clear yet, but we're getting there!

    Stickman's 2014 Glog- That's all folks!

I'm still enjoying the powder from my prik's last year. The only bad part about them is the fact that you have to pick a million of them to get anywhere, but they grow about 30 million on a plant, so other than the time, it's not a big deal.

Looks good, I'll have to consider that. I like the comment a little further down that page about using a larger bottle capped, with a hole in the lid, as a sort of "drip" irrigator for when you go away for a few days. Looks like a roll is pretty inexpensive.   Just checked the Farmer's Almanac...

    Stickman's 2014 Glog- That's all folks!

I'd be curious if the cili padi are a different strain from the thai prik kee nu suon ("mouse turd") peppers. I grew them last year, they aren't a super, but it's amazing the kind of heat the little peppers can put out.

Rick - how do you get water through the plastic mulch? Do you have to handwater?   Noah - Winters vary from pretty mild to pretty hard, I think this year we had snow about a foot deep the whole winter long, with some high winds and bitter colds. I may have to get some worms once I've pulled the...

    Stickman's 2014 Glog- That's all folks!

She actually doesn't like spicy foods. I tend to add a bit of additional "seasoning" to a lot of the things that I eat, and save the fully spicy dishes for my lunches at work. We have to be careful what we eat, as some stuff can get transferred to him and his stomach does not like it. We avoid...

    Stickman's 2014 Glog- That's all folks!

It's true, I'm back!   I just started my glog up, I'll be growing something or other this year, but it's going to be cut way back. We have a 7 week old baby now, and between getting ready for him and having him here things just did not happen. I'm just going to hit up the local nurseries and...

SeanW is back...and the hydro plants are all in!

I'm not sure how deep the pile was frozen. We had a few nights down into the negative teens, Fahrenheit. I tried to turn the compost at one point, but I couldn't get the pitchfork through the ice on top.   The only real place to put the bin is in my garage, which drops into the 30s during the...
